Kitty or Ada?

Myu5ername · 29/08/2016 22:25

I am having my second girl soon and trying to decide on a name. We both love Ada but everyone hates it - not that I often care of negative opinions but this time round it's making me think twice. Kitty was always a favourite name but I now know a couple of kitty's which is no bad thing but would probably prefer a name that I don't directly know someone with already.

What are your thoughts?

Hello kitty

Ada

whatstheplanphil · 29/08/2016 23:46

I really like Ada and Kitty actually, I always think you should go with what you and dp want, I think both names are reAlly lovely but if I had to choose I have to say I would choose Ada.

kittybiscuits · 29/08/2016 23:47

Kitty is a lovely name Smile

Mausageandsash · 29/08/2016 23:50

Love Kitty - very pretty and sweet

RitesOfSpring · 29/08/2016 23:59

Ada is really nice, Kitty I hate!!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/08/2016 00:03

Kitty is lovely.

Not keen on Ada.

hownottofuckup · 30/08/2016 00:04

Ada

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/08/2016 00:20

Ada

Kitty is ridiculous as a given name.

CodyKing · 30/08/2016 00:21

Anya is better

Prefer Kitty

MrsGsnow18 · 30/08/2016 07:30

Ada

SmileAndNod · 30/08/2016 07:33

Kitty - though the ones I have met haven't been pretty and sweet, they've been feisty (and pretty)

GoldPlatedBacon · 30/08/2016 07:56

I like Ada.

Kitty is OK but If you choose Kitty please use Katherine as the given name and use Kitty as a diminutive

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 08:02

Who are you pronouncing Ada? Adda (like the snake) or Ayda? If it's the first, no! If it's the second, still not keen but better.

I don't like Kitty. It sounds like a nice nickname for a child but not their actual name. I don't think you can go into a business meeting and say your name is Kitty, for example. Sounds cute for a child but what about when they are an adult?

SorenaJ · 30/08/2016 09:07

Ada

Pomegranatemolasses · 30/08/2016 09:12

Gosh, I'd better inform my super-bright and ambitious DD that she cannot 'go into a business meeting and say her name is Kitty', Hmm

What utter rubbish! Go with Kitty, OP. It's a lovely name.

Glittermud · 30/08/2016 09:16

I have an Ada and she's a glorious, beautiful geeky brain box. She's also v proud of her namesake Ada Lovelace's achievements and the fact that her name is a bit unusual.

I think it's a beautiful name steeped in history.

Zippidydoodah · 30/08/2016 09:17

Ada

Kitty just makes me think of, um, a kitty cat....and doesn't sound like a real name to me. Sorry!

Zippidydoodah · 30/08/2016 09:18

Ps Ada was actually on my list of names so I might be a little biased!

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 30/08/2016 09:23

I like Ada but really dislike Kitty. It's just naff IMO. But that's just it, it's an opinion. A lot of people told me they didn't like choice for our DD but it's a family name, I love it and don't regret it at all!!
TBH the people who didn't like names I liked chose horrible names for their children so I wouldn't want them to like my choices Grin

katemess12 · 30/08/2016 10:30

Kitty is awful. No different than naming your child "cat". If you insist, give her Katherine as a full name and call her Kitty for short.

Ada is gorgeous.

Pinklily1 · 30/08/2016 10:31

Ada is lovely. I also like Kitty but out of the two would go with Ada.

0pti0na1 · 30/08/2016 11:08

Ada, definitely.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 30/08/2016 13:11

Ada or Katherine (nn Kitty) for me. I don't really like Kitty as a full name personally, though it's ridiculous to say that no one in a business meeting might introduce themselves as Kitty Hmm.

It is just a bit cutesy to my ear and I'd rather my DD had the option to use something with a more formal feel if she wanted to. I guess Kit is a bit less cutesy maybe? Kitty with nn Kit is quite cool for a girl I think. Still far prefer Katherine though. It's got more history to it IMHO.

lastqueenofscotland · 30/08/2016 14:06

Kitty is vile.
Ada is ok but I think will date badly.
