Noah - for a girl?

Hi, thoughts on the name Noah? There's a female Noah in the bible, so it's definitely unisex.

The usual female version of Noah is Noa.

Noah for a girl just looks wrong.

Might have definitely been unisex 4000 years ago but now people will wonder why you've given your girl a boys' name.

I know a Noa, I think it's pretty, wouldn't like it spelled the same way as the boy's name though. Even without the h I thought it odd at first but I've discovered a few since meeting this one.

There's a Noa in my ds(9) class at school. I love it. Noa/h Kate sounds beautiful.

It's not a boys name, it's unisex... If the name originated from the bible in the first place, where there is both a male and female Noah, it's unisex. I really wasn't making this post for a debate!

I think people would assume it was a boy if spelled with an h

Not an issue with people assuming boy - I think many names would be assumed boy - Morgan, etc. (IMO)

Noa for a girl is really lovely.

Noah for a girl............not so much

But you wouldn't call a girl Leslie, you'd use Lesley.

And that she's expected to be a boy won't be an issue for you but it will be for her.

But Noah was used for a girl when it was used for a boy!

I think the "Noah is a unisex name" boat (ark?) has sailed, TBH. You might be right technically, and there may be other countries that use it for girl or boy, but in the UK in 2016 it is a boy's name, sorry.

Makes me think of Noa Cyrus who voiced Ponyo in the English version!

My mother in her excitement leaving a message for her welsh cousin just said that Noah had been born etc etc...

I got a beautiful baby present from her - all pink and girly- and a card congratulating us on the birth of our lovely little girl Noa. And how nice that we'd chosen a traditional Welsh name... (My mum is also welsh)

Tbere are loads of boy Noah's around at tbe moment; very few girls. But would agree that think of the girl's name as not having the h on the end.

Yes Dream and Hilary, Beverly and Courtney were all originally boys names. I still wouldn't give them to my DS

That's fine, I'm not asking you to give Noah to your daughter. I'm just stating it's unisex. Darcy is now more used for girls, it's still unisex.

Oh fgs call her Harold Augustus if you like but don't get funny when she hates people spelling it Noa or assuming she's a little boy.

The Darcy analogue isn't the same. The name Darcy just usn't as commonly used/as universally known as Noah.

Of course you are perfectly entitled to call your child anything you like but it's egregious to suggest that you aren't setting the child up for a lifetime of confusions and explanations.

No one will separate their reaction to the name from the spelling.
Hence the reactions you've had on this thread.

Noah is hardly a controversial name for a boy and likewise Noa for a girl.

It's only worthy of a thread at all because of the spelling.
