Hi! My dad's name is Robert, my partner's dad's name is Michael. Which one should we go for? First name will be Sebastian! Thanks x

Michael but maybe both to avoid anyone feeling left out. This is why we didn't use any family names then there is no room for hurt feelings.

nancy75 · 20/08/2016 00:36

Just use both, nobody ever actually uses their middle name(s) so it doesn't matter if they have more than one

FindingRory · 20/08/2016 00:36

No, we are saving one for if we ever have a second boy Smile if we have a girl, we will use the other person's mum's name, so no leaving out!

I think that's really tricky choosing one parent over the other. Michael goes well with Sebastian but I would go for both too.

RJnomore1 · 20/08/2016 02:13

I believe tradition is first don named after fathers father so Michael.

Sophronia · 20/08/2016 06:06

Sebastian Robert Michael would be nice, but if you're set on just one middle name then I like Sebastian Michael best.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/08/2016 07:14

I prefer Robert

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/08/2016 07:29

Robert.

Love Robert.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/08/2016 07:30

Well which persons mums name do you like best? Maybe chose Robert or Michael based on that if you can't decide.

Paintedhandprints · 20/08/2016 07:33

Mix it up abit. Michert? Robael?
Just kidding. I don't like either name.
absolutely no help

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/08/2016 07:33

If ones Gladys and ones Catherine, there's your mind made up for you Grin

JeanGenie23 · 20/08/2016 07:33

Michael Robert was my late dads name so I would say use both hahaha 😊

Both are great names, Robert perhaps has more options for NN whilst child is little, but to me that's not massively important anyway.

Thanks for starting this thread it's cheered me up seeing my dads name Smile

Paintedhandprints · 20/08/2016 07:33

Love Sebastien though.

JeanGenie23 · 20/08/2016 07:35

Sorry realised Sebastian was first name anyway BrewBrew Hungover and illiterate

lljkk · 20/08/2016 08:00

I do family history. Regardless of what people say is traditional, the most common pattern I see is 1st girl = paternal grandmother's name, 1st boy = maternal grandfather's name.

If this child will have his grandfather's surname, then nice to put the other grandfather's 1st name in there. Besides, I think Seb Robert sounds a little better.

CatchIt · 20/08/2016 08:23

I used both my dad's & my fils names as middle names for my ds, it was just easier!

duskonthelawn · 20/08/2016 08:25

If you can only use one, what lljkk said. If we ever have a boy he will have DPs middle name (which is his dad's first name).

duskonthelawn · 20/08/2016 08:26

Oh wait, is that what you mean lljkk? Think I got muddled there 😆

user1471501988 · 20/08/2016 22:03

Sebastian Robert Michael

badg3r · 20/08/2016 22:31

How to SM and SR go with the surname initial? I like both equally! To be fair, which side does DD have Thame babe from and could you use the other side of the family for DS1?

badg3r · 20/08/2016 22:32

Ah, see I misunderstood, no DD yet!!
