Jax - what do people think?

Have always loved the name Jax for a boy? I'm 16 weeks pregnant so still unsure of the sex at present but we have definitely decided on a name for a girl but still pondering on the name Jax for a boy!

The middle name would be George.

Thoughts pleaseSmile

I don't really like it, and Jax George doesn't flow - but then people rarely use their middle name, so it's not that important.

I agree with others that it's more like a nickname.

Loyly · 17/08/2016 17:45

I really don't like Jax. It made me think of 'jacks off', sorry.

SaggyNaggy · 17/08/2016 17:45

Whenever I hear Jax it makes me think of Mortal Kombat. His special fatality move involves impaling someone with their own arms, ripping their head off and putting out a cigar on the bloody stump. Luverly.

Obviously that is just me though and not everyone knows what mortal kombat is.

Onenerfwarfrombreakdown · 17/08/2016 17:46

Id think you couldn't decide between Jack and Max and made up your own twee and horrible version Confused it's a no from me sorry.

Suzietwo · 17/08/2016 17:46

Too much sons of anarchy

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 17/08/2016 17:55

I've only heard it as a shortening of/nickname for Jacqueline before, quite like it for a boy though!

leccybill · 17/08/2016 19:40

Wasn't the baby called Jax in the dubious story of the insurance payout to get him home from New York?
That was a right saga.

SoupDragon · 17/08/2016 19:41

That was Dax.

Which is equally bad.

MrsGsnow18 · 17/08/2016 19:46

I loved Sons of Anarchy. Anyone who doesn't know who Jax Tellar is should google for naked images of him.

I like the name OP. Would def give Jaxon or Jackson as full name though.

squoosh · 17/08/2016 19:55

In Dublin 'jacks' is slang for toilet. Jackson is okay.

Dontrocktheboat · 17/08/2016 20:02

Jax is awful and not a name, as is Jaxon. Jackson marginally better but personally I hate surnames as first names.

Jack or George are nice if dull.

WanderingTrolley1 · 17/08/2016 20:04

First thing I thought was Ajax.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 17/08/2016 20:10

How about Jacques which sounds similar but is an established name?

KatieScarlettReregged2 · 17/08/2016 20:13

Vanderpump Rules

maryellie · 17/08/2016 20:17

Yes I love it, one of our potential names! We got the idea from watching too much sons of anarchy!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/08/2016 20:21

Jax is too similar to Jack or Jackson without being them!

I have a soft spot for Dax though.

PlanBwastaken · 17/08/2016 20:21

What sqoosh said - if he ever moves to Ireland, he will have to put up with never-ending piss-taking. Please don't. Jack, Jacques, Jackson are all grand, and much better choices.

SuperHeroesForKids · 17/08/2016 20:26

I like Jackson with Jax for short maybe. I have a Jack and I call him Jacks Hmm not sure how I shortened his name to a longer name. But I like the name Jax anyway. But not with George.

Dizzydodo · 17/08/2016 20:45

If I didn't see it written down and just heard his name I would think it was 'Jacks' which would make me Hmm that there was a random s at the end of a 'normal' name.

EssentialHummus · 17/08/2016 20:47

Terrible. Another vote for Jackson

MrsGsnow18 · 17/08/2016 20:49

I'm from Ireland and have never heard this toilet slang? Hmm
Must be very specific to a certain area? Don't think it's a popular enough slang term to put anyone off the name if they like it tbh.

EddieStobbart · 17/08/2016 20:52

I really don't like it. Jackson is ok but Jax, sorry - terrible.

MrsGsnow18 · 17/08/2016 20:53

waterfordwhispersnews.com/2015/09/29/the-story-behind-why-irish-people-call-toilets-the-jacks/

I had to google it to find out. It's more associated with the name Jack because the inventor of the toilet was called Jack.
Apparently that's also where the expression'Jack shit' came from!

Not really relevant though. I still love the name OP.

squoosh · 17/08/2016 20:54

Where in Ireland are you from? If you read my comment you can see that I did specify Dublin. Everyone in Dublin would be familiar with the term 'jacks', not that everyone would use it as it's considered pretty coarse.

squoosh · 17/08/2016 20:57

Er, you do know that Waterford whispers is a parody website??

Not that I'm a toilet nerd or anything but 'jacks' is believed to come from a common Tudor word for toilet 'jakes'.
