Lilyanna?

I really like the name Lily, and OH has his heart set on it. However I don't like how popular it has become which puts me off massively. I was thinking Lilyanna is a more unique name, which could be used on the birth certificate. Lily as an abbreviation. What are your thoughts?

Oh wow. I was going to name my dd lilyanna. I absolutely loved it. Dh was a bit . So went for Ava in the end. But you should go for it. It's a beautiful name imo.

I had a work colleague called Liliana which I think is a very elegant name. I don't like Lilyanna though, looks as if it's missing a hyphen to me.

One thing to bear in mind is that if your dd wants to use her full name it will almost certainly be misspelled most of the time (regardless of which variation you pick as there are so many).

But if you are going to call her Lily in daily life, and everyone else follows suit how will the fact that it's Lilyanna on the birth certificate make any difference?

Forgot to say Lily is a lovely name. I'd call her that.

We found the spelling Lilyanna on a girls name website on Google, I didn't really think about another spelling if I'm honest. But yes I do prefer the spelling Liliana.

I would still use the name Liliana, but definitely would use Lily as a nick name.

If you both love Lily and your only reservation is popularity i'd go with Lily.

I don't think it is that popular. It has peaked and is dropping, was a popular middle name when my 10 year old was born a long with May.

I far, far, far prefer lily. Lilyanna is a bit of a mouthful to me (sorry). Yes, Lily is popular, but not really among newborn babies born now / recently I don't think. I don't remember there being any at any of my baby groups when DD was small either (she's now 20mo). I know an older girl called Lily (10yo) and two adults. I also met a Lily-Mae recently who was about 7.

Just go with Lily.

I think Lily was at peak popularity a few years ago. I have a 10 year old and there's a lot of girls called Lily in his year. (Especially Lily-Mae)

Having a popular name is not as bad as when we were younger because there's a much wider variety of names these days. I have a son called Jack which was number one for about 10 years and he's 15 and never been in the same class as another boy with that name. Ellie and Sophie weren't number one that year but he's always been in classes with multiple girls with those names. (In his y6 class out of 15 girls, 6 were Ellie!)

Yes I'd say Anna not Arna. (Arna seems to be the American pronunciation as in "Frozen").

You are right about Lily - far too popular, but Lillyanna is far too twee as I would pronounce it Lily Anna too.

There is a girl in my daughters class called Lilia (pronounced Lil-ee-ah) which is preferable to both options mentioned.

Lilia is a lovely name much prefer it to Lillian and Lillith.
