Finally narrowed it down.

Emma
Emilia
Anna
Holly
Lana

Our problem with Emilia is that she will constantly be correcting people that it isn't Amelia. And with Amelia being so popular at the moment, I fear anyone (even pronouncing the EM) would just hear Amelia. What are people's thoughts on this?

Also issue with Lana as pointed out by a friend is what it spells backwards..she thinks kids will pick up on this although I had never thought of it until she mentioned it!

Thanks everyone :)

Thanks so much everyone :) Out of interest, when you see Emilia or Emelia do you think of it as "Eee-melia" or "EM-elia"? Where do you stress the E?

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 14/08/2016 17:27

For both spellings I'd say em-EE-lia, with the stress on the second syllable.

Allalonenow · 14/08/2016 17:36

I think Anna is lovely, with Emma a close second.

I would only use Holly for a baby born around Christmas time.

I'm not keen on Lana or Emelia, both a bit wishy washy names to me.

squoosh · 14/08/2016 18:34

'when you see Emilia or Emelia do you think of it as "Eee-melia" or "EM-elia"?'

I'd pronounce it in the same way as I pronounce Amelia, uh-meelia.

squoosh · 14/08/2016 18:36

I do (or did) like the name Lana but ever since I saw a girl on TV who said her classmates picked up on the 'anal' reverse spelling it's really put me off it.

Lara is beautiful though.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 14/08/2016 19:01

I used to work with two women called Emelia! One was Polish and the other Romanian I think. I have to say, I thought they were both called Amelia until I saw their names written down. I pronounce them both the same (Amelia and Emelia).

NameChange30 · 14/08/2016 19:08

Which spelling is more common, Emilia or Emelia? I prefer Emilia personally.

thebakerwithboobs · 14/08/2016 19:11

Our niece is Emillia and we say it Em-ill-i-uh. Anna is lovely too.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 14/08/2016 19:24

Oh sorry - might have been Emilia not Emelia - or maybe one of each.

DietCockBreak · 14/08/2016 19:46

All nice. Order of preference for me would be: Anna, Holly, Lana, Emilia, Emma.

Summerbluues · 18/08/2016 22:54

Thank you everyone :)

We have taken Lana and Holly off of the list. I think now it will be a case of seeing that feels right after a few days of her arriving. Although DH has now thrown Ellen in which is really growing on me!!

Ellen is lovely, but I'm not sure if it goes as well with Kate/Katherine? My face off your list is Anna. Classy, timeless, friendly and kind.

booellesmum · 18/08/2016 23:05

Eleanor Kate sounds really nice.

I agree that Eleanor Kate flows much better than Ellen Kate, also Eleanor is a lovely classic name.

If you are thinking of nn, Ellen often gets Nellie as a nn, while Eleanor is more likely to get Ellen or Ellie! Smile

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 18/08/2016 23:40

I love Lana, and you could always spell it Larna to avoid the anal thing.
Don't make the mistake of thinking Emelia is unusual. I'm tripping over them and yes it probably will be mistaken for the even more popular Amelia. Still a lovely name though.
I love Anna, but wouldn't want it pronounced Arn-a, so. I think id spell it Ana.
Emma is okay. A bit Meh sounding, but At the same time quite unusual now
Holly is more of a winter name. When are you due

Summerbluues · 18/08/2016 23:58

Allalonenow that's my only issue with Ellen/Eleanor- I'm really not a fan of Ellie or Nellie and it will undoubtedly get shortened. Perhaps Ellen less so than Eleanor.

Ilive Oh really? I've only come across 2 little Emilia's! Perhaps it is on the rise. It's strange how I really love it but am really not keen on Amelia.
The only issue with Ana (and it's a bit dark) but that's the abbreviated word for anorexia... and often girls with ED's talk about "my friend Ana." My sister suffered for years with it and everyone on those horrible online communities would say stuff like "listen to Ana" etc etc..sorry I know that's super dark but I Can't help but think of that when I see it! So I think I'd stick with Anna. I think the Ar-na pronoun cation is more European.

hollieberrie · 19/08/2016 00:06

Holly is the best name obvs Grin

amberdixie · 22/08/2016 07:58

Sister is Anna and never in her life has she had Ar-na - even post Frozen Wink. It's my favourite on your list.

Olbersparadox · 22/08/2016 09:29

I love Lana
Why don't you spell it Lanah?
Or go with Alana

Emma is nice and sweet.

Laquila · 22/08/2016 09:36

I love Anna and also Anna. Emily's is beautiful and although there's a LOT of Amelias around at the mo, I don't think people would confuse the two.

Just seen you've also mentioned Ellen, which I LOVE

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 22/08/2016 09:38

Ellen is gorgeous!

workshyfop · 22/08/2016 09:42

What about Ilana? It's an old English name.
