Thoughts on Miles

What do people think? It's growing on me. Had my heart set on Arthur or Benjamin but Miles seems a bit more unusual (is there a reason for this and am I being deluded with hormones haha)?

I prefer Miles out of your selection. I'm not a fan of Arthur and every other boy I was at school with was called Ben

Raines100 · 31/07/2016 17:58

Love Benjamin. Arthur is not to my taste. You will get lots of positive comments about Miles on here, but personally, I thinks it's pretentious and drippy. It's a unit of measurement, not a name.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/07/2016 17:59

I like it, nice strong name Smile

FiveFullFathoms · 31/07/2016 18:00

I love Miles. Benjamin and Arthur are very common round here but I only know one Miles (and he's 30!)

wigglesrock · 31/07/2016 18:20

I quite like it. I know a 12 year old, he spells it Myles which I much prefer.

busymummy3boys1girl · 31/07/2016 18:46

I have a 1 year old ds called Miles x Smile

Mumblechum0 · 31/07/2016 18:48

I have a 22 year old called Miles. He does occasionally say he's going to change it though Hmm. I think there was a bit of gentle ribbing in primary about kilometers, blah blah but I still like it.

sonlypuppyfat · 31/07/2016 18:52

Miles is nice, Arthur is awful I went to school with an arthur who was teased mercilessly

Sophronia · 01/08/2016 04:49

I love Miles. Miles Benjamin would be nice.

Pipilangstrumpf · 01/08/2016 07:39

I prefer Miles to Ben and Arthur, but the unit of measurement slightly puts me off. Especially in the UK where miles rather than kilometres are used.

How about Milo?

Middleoftheroad · 01/08/2016 07:45

I have a Miles Smile it suits him as he is really happy and we nickname him smiles. Of course there is the odd joke about mph! I have seen it spelt with a y, but prefer the trad spelling.

Jacobbay · 01/08/2016 08:05

It's a great name.

allloveknows · 01/08/2016 08:08

Much better with the y as Myles

Babymamamama · 01/08/2016 08:09

Loving the name miles.

Blondie87 · 01/08/2016 09:35

Thanks for all the feedback. It's such a big responsibility naming a human! Want to keep the name a surprise from family and friends so good to be able to get some objective opinions! Think I prefer it spelt 'Miles' and although a bit concerned there'll be some gentle teasing, there are other names which mean other things which are lovely, like Fin/Finn and Guy. No one would say to a Fin 'hey, you're named after the appendage on a fish?'??

If it helps -though I'm sure you know this already - the name Miles is based on a Latin word meaning 'soldier'.

Just possibly, that might be useful ammo against any possible bullies. But there are so many names, from so many origins, in use at the moment ( and that's a good thing) that I doubt whether the name Miles would cause any problems.

marblestatue · 01/08/2016 18:43

I like it, it's a great name.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/08/2016 19:21

Was my FiL's middle name - he was a tough nut and excellent tennis player!

Lovely strong, traditional name among all the current weird/cutesy/overused ones - go for it!

wizzywig · 01/08/2016 19:23

Miles Colby! Am i showing my age?

lljkk · 01/08/2016 19:44

I like Arthur best out of those... but really, you should go with what you know you love & you will make it work.

strawberrypenguin · 01/08/2016 19:46

I like it. Ds2 was very nearly Miles but it didn't suit him as much as his name does!

LBOCS2 · 01/08/2016 19:47

I like Miles a lot. If DD2 had been DS2, she would have been Miles Anthony.

Wordsaremything · 01/08/2016 21:23

I like miles, love Arthur.
What about Guy? Same sort of feel but less well used.

Wordsaremything · 01/08/2016 21:24

Aha! Guy is on your list didn't see that Smile

PeppasNanna · 01/08/2016 21:27

I have a Myles.

Always get lots of compliments on his name.
