Just heard it on TV, I quite like it? What could it be short for?

Breezeblock? Tile? Joist? Windowsill? Mortar?

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 26/07/2016 15:30

I knew a guy called Brick when I was about 14. I think it was his 'cool' teenage nickname. Funnily enough he doesn't go by 'Brick' anymore.

BakewellSliceAgain · 26/07/2016 15:30

Thatch could work - as long as none of the grandparents are Corbynistas.

wishiwasntme · 26/07/2016 15:32

Lol, now I've read the full thread I can see others had the same thoughts regarding surnames.

eyebrowsonfleek · 26/07/2016 15:32

I thought of the saying " built like a shit brick house"and "thick as a brick"

If he's petite or not a genius, he's going to have the piss taken out of him. Brick rhymes with dick and prick btw.

Big boy: "Oi, what's your name?"
Small boy: "Brick"
Big boy: "Did you say Prick? Your name is Prick? Hey, Jonesie, he says his name is Prick".
Big boy and friends guffaw and spend the next 10 years shouting "Oi, Prick" every time they see Small boy in the distance.
Small boy curses parents and changes name to Jack as soon as possible.

OnionKnight · 26/07/2016 15:40

It's as bad as Bear for a name.

RachelLynde · 26/07/2016 15:42

Only if you're going to call your second child 'mortar' Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 26/07/2016 15:44

Bear is at least a magnificent creature, brave and beautiful. Brick is, err, well...useful?

tootiredforthissh1t · 26/07/2016 15:44

Thick as a ...

MiracletoCome · 26/07/2016 15:46

I see that you see it on tv, it wasn't on Escape to the Country, or Homes under the Hammer was it and you got confused and thought they were talking about a person and they meant a house.

MissBattleaxe · 26/07/2016 15:47

He will be called Prick by about Year 4 and it will be his nickname forever.

MalbecAndLindt · 26/07/2016 15:47

No.

practy · 26/07/2016 15:48

If they are not extremely clever, they will get called - thick as a brick.

Mrsfrumble · 26/07/2016 15:51

Also in the southern USA, and have never met a Brick. I've met a Breck, a Brock and even a Bracken, but never a Brick.

Oldraver · 26/07/2016 16:00

Don't be a twat

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 26/07/2016 16:00

My DS and I recently met a small boy named Blade. I have since spent a ridiculous amount of mental energy wondering about his birth registration appointment, and how the registrar managed to keep a straight face. Could you honestly look a tiny, vunerable, wrinkled newborn in the face and think 'Brick'? (chuckles)

TheWindInThePillows · 26/07/2016 16:04

I don't like names which are objects- another corker is Satchel (original name of Woody Allen's son Ronan, I also knew someone with this name). It's just distracting because you keep thinking of the thing, and being puzzled.

BakewellSliceAgain · 26/07/2016 16:16

Yes who was surprised when Satchel changed his name.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 26/07/2016 16:17

Isn't one of Michael Jackson's kids called Blanket?

BakewellSliceAgain · 26/07/2016 16:18

And turned out the image of Frank Sinatra!

Roussette · 26/07/2016 16:18

Yes, and Blanket. Michael Jackson's son. He doesn't call himself that anymore either. hardly surprising

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 26/07/2016 18:05

Please don't do that to a child. A categoric no
