Eleanor Alice, Alice Eleanor?!

Hi All,

With 10 weeks to go we have it whittled down to 3 names.

Alice
Eleanor
Jane

I'm starting to go 'off' Jane, even as a middle name if I'm honest, but DH still likes it.

Op welcome on which variation goes better:
Alice Eleanor
Eleanor Alice
Alice Jane
Eleanor Jane

I wouldn't want to add Jane into the mix also. DS has two middle names and it still bugs me.

My favourite combinations are Alice Eleanor and Eleanor Jane.

Have you thought about what you would prefer if dd/ family/ dd friends shortened her name as she was older eg friends calling Her allie / lissy for Alice or Ellie/ Elle for Eleanor- just something to ponder on. If you really hate one of those may make choice easier? X

My grandmother was Alice Eleanor, so I am totally biased, but I think it's lovely!

Alice as first name, 1000000%!! by far the prettiest, other 2 are very plain IMO.

Why not use Jane as a first name. When I was a kid you couldn't put a pin head between Jane's but It's Very unusual now.

Alice Eleanor has a better ring to it!

I like Alice. There are a lot of Ellie, Ella and Elles about right now and it seems inevitable that Eleanor would end up being shortened to that.

Alice is timeless.

Eleanor by far. Alice always makes me think of someone who is not quite all the ticket, due to the cliches a while back (think Vicar of Dibley).

Also, there are more alternatives should your daughter not like her name (speaking from bitter experience here!). If you don't like Alice, there's not a lot you can do with it.

Eleanor Alice. But then I have an Eleanor Charlotte (so biased). We thought it kind of grand and strong with a lot of history. It will probably get shortened though! Just to warn you. Our Eleanor is Ella. There is Ellie but also Nell/Nellie or Nora. My favourite is Elle (I call dd this sometimes). TONS of options.

With Alice there is not that much you can do with it. Makes me think of lice due to the sounds in the later part of the name.

I am an Alice Eleanor - please name your child after me, I'd be chuffed.

Eleanor is lovely but likely to get shortened to Ella/Ellie which are both very overused in the current generation of UK children

I'm Alice Helen, so I'm voting for Alice Eleanor.

Alice has never really been shortened much for me - I've had plenty of nicknames, but no lasting abbreviation of Alice. And it doesn't dound like "lice", the "i " is pronounced differently!
