DC1 on the way and people keep telling me my girls name choices are silly! They're all my favourite names and have been for years. DP likes a few of them.

Thoughts please?...

Girls (middle name will be Jane, Valerie or Emily):
Harvie
Hazel
Jordan
Aurora
Olive
Maxie

Boys (middle name will be Kenneth, David or Harry):
Leo
Lukas
Harvey
Finn

Harvey was ranked 113 in 1996.
Harvey was ranked 48 in 2014.

I love this website below. Quite addictive!

JORDAN (boys): Down from 11th to 212th
JORDAN (girls): Down from 126th to 3514th

Aurora Jane and Jordan Emily are darling!

dailymaillazyjournos · 22/07/2016 14:33

I like all the boys names - especially Leo.

Hazel is lovely and timeless, quite like Aurora (nn Rori - sounds cute)
Maxi - all I think of is maxi as in large. Maxine is better imo.
Jordan (not keen)
Harvie (not keen, but like Harvey for a boy.)

None of them are silly. People are very rude.

kw1091 · 22/07/2016 15:30

Thank you daily, I have always loved Aurora for her to be Rori for short.
I'm appreciative for the supportive comments. It is mostly the girls names I am worried about girls seem to have a harder time of names than boys I feel!

I've only ever come across one Aurora ( called Rori,) and immediately thought it was so sweet and unusual. Not sure who gets the hardest time girls or boys, when it comes to names. Depends on the name I guess and how much diversity there is where you live, when it comes to the more unusual ones perhaps.

RepentAtLeisure · 22/07/2016 17:18

Aurora - Rori for short sounds lovely!

I would just suggest that normal spelling for names are helpful (I am someone who has an 'ie' where I should have a 'y', and it's been a pain in the arse), but ultimately whatever name you choose, people will adjust. Don't compromise to keep other people happy!

MrsJayy · 22/07/2016 18:59

Aurora is sleeping Beauty's name bit of trivia for you☺

RitchyBestingFace · 22/07/2016 19:10

Re Jordan - I was going to be called Imogen but my dad didn't like the association with Imogen Hassall* who was a soft porn type starlet in the 70s. 12 years later I shared the same name as the most famous page 3 girl of the 80s. Unfortunately no-one has a crystal ball.

I love the name Jordan and its a shame it's declined in popularity because of KP. I like all your girls names apart from Maxie but because of the maxi pad and a horrid Maxine I went to school with. Maxie is a Glenn Close film as well i think.

I can't believe people have an issue with the perfectly normal k spelling of Lukas.

*who? Exactly

toadgirl · 22/07/2016 20:24

with Imogen Hassall

What a perfect surname for a porn star Grin

toadgirl · 22/07/2016 20:26

I think Jordan is a nice name. KP might be long forgotten by the time your LO grows up and the name is not as widely used as it once was, but not too unusual either, so quite a good balance, I think.

Dozer · 22/07/2016 20:27

Aurora is silly too IMO: disney princess or horse name!

Loads of fab scandi names to look at since your DP is scandi.

MrsJoeyMaynard · 22/07/2016 20:36

Don't forget about the aurora borealis aka northern lights. It's not just about Disney princesses (or horses???? Confused )

CodyKing · 22/07/2016 20:44

Trouble is, with ANY name, you could suddenly have an awful reality star with the same name pop up and become famous after your DC has been named. Nothing to be done about that.

Yeo happened to DD - definitely keep quiet - say your still thinking about it!!

It is a responsibility but kids do Greco into their names!

iklboo · 22/07/2016 20:51

We told people our names would be:

Chlamydia
Rosacea
Pheremona

Agamemnon
Archimedes
Isambard

Got some very funny looks. Grin

MrsJoeyMaynard · 22/07/2016 20:59

I quite like Isambard.

Rosaaa · 24/07/2016 16:22

From the op I thought the names would be very "crazy" but don't think they are.
Lol at the "issues" with the name Lukas. Both spellings are totally acceptable.

Oly5 · 24/07/2016 16:28

Love Hazel and Aurora
Hate Harvie and Maxie.. Chavvy imo

BeatrixBurgund · 24/07/2016 16:41

Not keen on Harvie and Maxie or Jordan, but the rest are fine.

Tell your mum you are thinking of Torquil or Atticus if it's a boy, and then she'll be quite happy when you announce he's called Lukas.

Saying that, with a Scandi DP, what about a proper Scandi name? There are bound to be some lovely ones.
