Due baby of unknown sex in 2 weeks. Girl's name sorted, but I'm convinced we're having another beautiful boy.

We already have Arthur.

I don't like anything 'trendy' or 'faddy', and like strong, classic names, but (typically) nothing too popular (so no George, Charlie etc)

At the moment we seem to be wavering between Rupert and Edmund. But I just wonder is people will think 'why not Edward' (and it will just get shortened anyway) and whether Rupert is a bit wet??

I love Sebastian but it's very popular here.

Any thoughts or suggestions please??

Conrad

Sebastian is lovely, even if it is popular. How about Hugo? Really not keen on Rupert or Edmund, both sound very try hard and twee.

Popskipiekin · 15/07/2016 07:59

I have a baby cousin Rupert. He's adorable. Nobody thinks it's a wet name. He has a pretty 'cool' surname and a "standard" middle name (think Matthew, Edward etc), so Rupert sounds good and he could always switch to the middle name if he doesn't like Rupert later on - could you do that for your DS if it is a DS Smile? I once had a personal trainer called Rupert, he was faaaaar from wet Grin
Edmund I suppose I just think of Edmund in the Narnia book and he wasn't that nice or clever at times.
Tristan?

Dominic
Nicholas

Rupert is a bit "wet" as you put it but its not horrible just a bit dull I suppose. Edmund is ok I suppose - a bit Narnia-esque.

GemmaB78 · 15/07/2016 08:02

We had Edmund on our list and loved it so much we gave it to our DS. I love the Narnia books, and as outdoor types have huge respect for Edmund Hillary.

Rupert is a great name.

Not so keen on Edmund personally.

I was going to suggest most of the names above, so trying to think of alternatives.

Like Edmund but will almost certainly get called Ed, which I like. Love Dominic, Rupert is a bit wet for me personally, also like Theo and lately I'm liking Stefan.

I like Marius or Magnus Smile

Oh no!! More lovely names to consider! I love Magnus but DH isn't convinced.

Yes I can see a bit of a split vote on the name front which is sort of where I'm at!

You have all just made my job harder Grin

Perhaps I'll just pick something out of a hat or just call it 'baby' forever... At least DS can say that...

Love Edmund, could be shortened to Ed or Eddie but both are still traditional and lovely.

Not too keen on Rupert though, only because my DS called her cat Rupert :p

Luckystar1 · 15/07/2016 19:41

Oscar is my all time favourite name. I've said that it was 'my' name since I was about 8... Sadly, it is now much too popular for me, although I still adore it!

Lots of names for thought though thank you. And thank you for your thoughts on our names, I don't know if you've swayed me but you've certainly reiterated how people might react!!
