Help naming baby girl

My baby is due in just under 3 months and me and my partner still don't have one name for her. He's so fussy about it and I'm at my wits end with it.

He says he wants a traditional name but obviously we don't want it to be old fashioned.

It's so hard choosing a name, as so many of my friends and family have had girls and they get funny over what you choose.

I've already been told by people I'm not allowed to name my baby anything beginning with or ending with the letter A. I can't call her a colour/flower anything like that because of what my partners neices are named.

She's due 29th September and so will either end up being a Virgo or Libra. I was hoping to choose a name based on the personality traits of her zodiac sign and want a few lined up for each.

With respect, OP, why are you apparently consulting the entire world? The only people whose opinions matter are the baby's parents. You have three months. Don't tell anyone else until you announce the baby's arrival.

I haven't. We want some names lined up to make it easier but we won't actually name her to after the birth. It's other people constantly asking "have you chosen any names yet?" and people who have recently had babies telling me I'm not allowed to name her certain things or they've hinted at how it annoys them when people 'copy their ideas' My sister had a baby in April and called her Amelia. She's now getting funny with anyone else who calls their child Amelia or anything similar. My older sister wanted to call her baby Emily if it turned out to be a girl and my younger sister was fuming about it, saying its too much like Amelia and that she's copying. Pathetic I know lol

Yes, but you are obviously listening to people who are telling you what you are 'allowed' to name your child, and seem to be at least considering their restrictions! Just shut them down. Your sister is a loon. Amelia was the top girl's name in England and Wales in 2014, so if she was looking for exclusivity, it was hardly the way to go - there are thousands!

Best way to name a baby, choose your name tell nobody before birth. Once baby arrives announce the arrival of baby X

Nobody has a right to tell you what your allowed to call your baby. People don't own names once they've used them.

What are the personality traits of Libra and Virgo that you'd like to find names for?

Don't let other people tell you what you are 'allowed' and not 'allowed' to name your child. I can see why you might not want to be too similar to close friends children's names and your sister's children etc. But ultimately you decide!

How silly to think you cant choose whatever name you want!

I knew a lady who had a sonJ called Johnathan & three other sibs . He grew up and had his own son, but called him something else.

His brother did decide to use the name, and called his son Johnathan. The other son married and won a step son .....YUP

Granny ended up with a son and two grandsons called Johnathan, ( and one called John as it happens)

Guess what? They all lived happy healthy lives!

What do you define as a traditional name? Did you like the name Emily in the first place?

At the end of the day, it's nothing to do with your sister what you call YOUR child.

A friend of mine had a little girl a month ago and used the same name that DH and I love. We're still going to use it because we love it so much. Don't let anyone else dictate what you can and cannot call your child. You may regret it.

It's up to you and your partner what you call your baby.

I'd personally avoid giving my child the same name as a close family members / friends child, but I certainly wouldn't be thinking "can't use a colour / flower name as nieces have colour / flower names" or "can't have a name starting with an A as nieces name starts with an A".
