I'm in London and round here a lot of the so-called popular names aren't popular at all .

I would say that neither of those are especially popular. You do know James Fox is an actor, don't you?

NorbertDentressangle · 01/07/2016 13:06

The only Penelopes I know are adults, no babies or children.

I know a handful of children called James.

Not heard of any Belles or Foxes

kimlo · 01/07/2016 13:07

I know loads of boys called James.

I dont know any Penelopes but I know of one Penny.

I have a Penelope. She's 9 months old.

Pipilangstrumpf · 01/07/2016 14:05

James is very popular and imo a little dull.

Penelope isn't that popular and I really like it.

jasmine1979 · 01/07/2016 14:22

I know a lot of people called James of all ages. I also know quite a few people called Belle. The only Penelope I know of is from Wacky Races. Smile
I think they are all lovely names though.

septembersunshine · 01/07/2016 16:41

James Fox is an actor but I don't think it's a HUGE issue. He is well known but not super well known and James is a popular first name. He may well become Jim/Jimmy/Jamie anyway as he is growing up.

DerelictMyBalls · 01/07/2016 19:06

I have never met a Penelope.

livinglooney8 · 01/07/2016 19:15

I know 7 James and two Penelopes. Surrey based.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 02/07/2016 13:08

We're in Surrey too and haven't met any Penelopes or Jameses in baby groups. (No Belles or Foxes either!)

soundsystem · 02/07/2016 13:29

All the Penelopes I know are adults. I don't know any baby/toddler Jameses where I am in London but I do know of a few in other places.

Winterbiscuit · 02/07/2016 16:43

I've met a few Pennys and they'd all be over 40 by now. I like the name though, and it looks like it's underused at the moment.

I only know one James under 10. It's nice as a first name, although it seems a lot more popular as a middle name just now.

Ikeameatballs · 02/07/2016 19:07

I think that Penelope is a lovely name but one that is ripe for taking off in terms of popularity.
