6 weeks old... No name... Not even a list... HELP!

Hi there, I stumbled across this website, as I was looking for feeding advice. However, this seems like a perfect place to ask about his name. Though, now I'm wide awake!

My son is 6 weeks, the official name deadline is today. Last week, I tried to get a week longer (at the time, 2 weeks), but got the answer of "definitely not", so I have no choice.

To be honest, I haven't enjoyed anything about the pregnancy. My husband's mum was taken very ill at the end, so he had to fly to Spain (where his parents live) and missed the whole birth. When he was born, we did begin to look at names, but then his mum went further down hill, so he had to fly back. So he hasn't been here for weeks and I have found it really hard, so the last thing I have been thinking about is his name! It has come around so quick.

He is 1/4 Spanish (FIL is Spanish) so we do have a Spanish surname (Carlos) my surname was awful, so I have gotten rid of it completely. Even though he does have a Spanish surname, I still want him to have 1 English name and 1 Spanish, as it was my choice that my surname wasn't included. I think Diego will be his middle name, we both like it.

I now need an English name, so he will be:

___ Diego Carlos

I would like something from the top 100, but it doesn't need to work in Spain, as he could always go by his middle name, when we are there. As we do stay in Spain for the holidays (we both work in schools). I want it to sound like a very English name, as my whole family is English/husband is half English and he will mainly grow up here! However, as we have come across loads of children, due to our careers, it's going to be impossible. Every time a name comes into my mind, I think of a child that I have worked with, so it does put me off. Not because I don't like the child, but for a variety of reasons.

I'm really upset, I can't believe he has to be registered today Sad I'm so not ready!

Any help would be fantastic x

I also like Reuben a lot as suggested by someone above

LetThereBeCupcakes · 29/06/2016 07:27

I think Elliot suits him, too.

Just wanted to say how sorry I am your DH has had to be away. My MIL died 2 weeks ago and I'm 30+6 with DC2, so feeling the "absent husband" thing too. It makes it so hard to focus on the baby. We've not discussed names at all yet!

cornishglos · 29/06/2016 07:32

He is beautiful, and would suit Daniel.

GinIsIn · 29/06/2016 07:32

Max works really well in both pronunciations and also Max Carlos is an AWESOME name - it sounds like the lead in an adventure story! :)

I love Sebastian and it works well in both languages

Homebird8 · 29/06/2016 08:57

If you can change the name relatively easily in the next few months why don't you register him as Diego Carlos then add a name once you and your DH can spend some time together.

So sorry you have had such a hard time with illness in the family just as your little one arrived.

DeltaSunrise · 29/06/2016 09:00

All the names mentioned are lovely and your boy is just gorgeous.

For what it's worth, I really like Elliot.

If you really can't decide, go along today and just register him as Diego Carlos. This will give you a bit more time to find his name and you can add it onto his BC once you are happy.

I'm sorry about your dh's mum, sounds like it was a tough time for you all so if you need more time to feel comfortable with a name then take it (after registering him today as Diego Carlos)

Good luck and update is once you know.

DeltaSunrise · 29/06/2016 09:01

Great minds Homebird You must have posted while I was still typing.

Homebird8 · 29/06/2016 09:22

Delta Grin

He's such a gorgeous munchkin Annie that you need to take your time and name him together with your DH.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 29/06/2016 09:45

I think he looks like a Michael.
Mikey for short.
Michael Diego Carlos.

BertrandRussell · 29/06/2016 09:48

Patrick

Patrick Carlos.
How cool is that?

MyMurphy · 29/06/2016 09:51

Loving Elliot too. (Beautiful baby x)

stiffstink · 29/06/2016 09:52

Alexander is a great name with your surname (unintentional pun).

Really good nn potential too.

BertrandRussell · 29/06/2016 09:57

Op - do remember to check with your dp that whatever name you choose is not too difficult for non English speaking Spanish speakers to say. It can be resolutely English, but still easy for them to say. I think Elliot might be difficult.

Dogolphin · 29/06/2016 09:58

I think he looks like an Alexander, there are lots of diminutives with a longer name which might be good for you.

AnnieC12 · 29/06/2016 12:25

Thank you all very much. I'm ever so sorry, I have just woken up! Feeds do me in...

Thanks for the compliments, I love him sooo much. His dark brown eyes are gorgeous (he didn't get them from me). Neither did he get all that dark hair from me

Loving lots of names. It doesn't matter if his first name doesn't work in Spain. His grandad is the only Spanish family member and he speaks fluent English and is great with English names. We will be out there for all the school holidays, but he could choose to go by Diego/or just say how his name is pronounced!

We have changed our mind and we are going with 2 middle names. One English and one Spanish.

We are liking Elliot Diego Isaac Carlos. Or Elliot Isaac Diego Carlos. Which is better? There's also a pattern with syllables and letters!

Is it too much?

Elliot Isaac Diego Carlos sounds better.

Lovely!

ScenesFromAnItalianRestaurant · 29/06/2016 12:39

Have you considered Oliver or Jonah with Orlando for the Spanish name?

strawberrypenguin · 29/06/2016 12:53

He's gorgeous annie I like Elliot Diego Isaac as the order, it flows better to my ear!

themoomah · 29/06/2016 13:00

Can't think of a name but please can I have a cuddle? He's delicious! Congratulations OP Flowers

nectarini1983 · 29/06/2016 14:16

I think he looks like a Noah or Diego!

AnnieC12 · 29/06/2016 14:19

Oh my goodness, I absolutely love Noah

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 29/06/2016 14:37

He is lovely!

Don't underestimate how much of a pain it can be to have a name you have to spell or correct (or endure mispronunciation)

It might also be difficult to switch between names - I wouldn't like to have to do it, and it would surely be confusing to a little child to be Sam most of the time but Juan when in Spain (for example!)

AnnieC12 · 29/06/2016 14:39

We will only be in Spain for school holidays. No one will need to write his name down in Spain Smile
