We both like Elowen but we have seen various pronunciations of it. How would people pronounce it.

It is Cornish and I wondered how it would be pronounced there.

We have been saying El-o-wen

I'd say ELL-oh-wen. I think it's pretty!

Jessbow · 25/06/2016 21:18

Ee-loo-ann

JakeyB · 25/06/2016 21:45

I'd say Ell -OW (like clown)-en.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 25/06/2016 21:46

Ell-o-wen

soundsystem · 25/06/2016 22:02

I'd say El-OW-en, but that's because I always assumed it was Welsh. Didn't realise it was Cornish so interested to find out the correct way!

soundsystem · 25/06/2016 22:02

Sorry, that should say El-O-wen

steppemum · 25/06/2016 22:05

like the name Owen, with Elle on the front, but softer and more run together

MitzyLeFrouf · 25/06/2016 22:36

As though I was spelling out London and stopped midway L-o-n-

Stickerrocks · 26/06/2016 07:00

L-Owin. You just let your natural Cornish lilt take it. Expect everyone to pronounce it differently & incorrectly if they're not Cornish (like saying Fo-wee for Fowey for place names). Actually, having looked at your other list, avoid Cornish place names and anything Poldark related like the plague. (I'm Cornish born & bred and have a family with proper Cornish names, so I speak with experience).

At first glance I would put the emphasis on the first E... 'E'lowen e as in Ellie, low as you would say it and a soft 'en'.

I suppose how the Welsh would pronounce it.. EH (air) lowen.

Does that make sense?? Lol I'm a little sleep deprived!
