I know an adult female Sol, she is from South America, very laid back and smiley. And also knew a little boy Sol aged about 5, he was also very smiley.

Sophronia · 19/06/2016 21:44

I like it short for Solomon.

Marmite27 · 19/06/2016 21:45

Not if the place you live precedes every name with 'our'

MrsBungle · 19/06/2016 21:46

I know a Sol. It's nice but his is short for Soloman.

Queenbean · 19/06/2016 21:48

Guy from hollyoaks

FlossiesFurCoat · 19/06/2016 21:48

Ah, didn't think of that, 'Our Sol..'

I like it but it does remind me of the beer! What about Soleil?

What about the Saul spelling?

60sname · 19/06/2016 21:56

Wyldfyre Sol and Saul are two different names though, and, depending on your accent, have different pronunciations

Wyldfyre · 19/06/2016 22:09

Here they would be pronounced the same way, so just assumed would be same elsewhere

GingerCuddleMonsterThe2nd · 19/06/2016 22:12

Makes me think of alcohol

Sol Mexican beer, sorry

TaurielTest · 19/06/2016 22:14

I know a Sol short for Solstice :)

TwentyCupsOfTea · 19/06/2016 22:15

Immediately think of the beer sorry. Akin to calling a child becks imo! Though that May say more about me Grin

Ffion3107 · 19/06/2016 22:18

There's a Saul in one of the schools I work in, I'd never heard it before but it's a lovely name.
It might be pronounced differently to Sol, though?

dementedpixie · 19/06/2016 22:20

I also think of the beer, sorry

MouldyPeach · 19/06/2016 22:20

I love it, was in the running for my daughters name. Not short for anything, just Sol 🌞

Scribblegirl · 19/06/2016 22:21

Makes me think of Sol Campbell! But I would assume it was a nickname.

FlossiesFurCoat · 19/06/2016 22:29

I think the 'Our Sol' 'Arsehole' thing has put me off as DP and family are Northern...!

Maybe Solly as a nn would be better?!

I know a sol (boy) - he's a cute little surfer type.

FlossiesFurCoat · 19/06/2016 22:31

Solomon's ok, but there are plenty of biblical names I prefer if we were to go down that route.... Elijah, Ezra and Malachi to name but a few.

nooka · 19/06/2016 22:51

I don't really like Sol on it's own, doesn't seem like a whole name to me. Seems like it's only short for Solomon or Marisol/ Soledad though.

MrsJoeyMaynard · 19/06/2016 22:57

Reminds me of the Sun.

Marmite27 · 20/06/2016 12:43

Sorry Scribble! But I thought it was worth mentioning, a friend was very close to naming her son this, and we're in the north too.

CourtJester · 20/06/2016 13:14

I knew a dog called Soloman, who was always called Sol... never heard a human with the name though
