I love the name chaim but been told it's not pronounced the way I imagined in my head (kyam or kyim)

Is it too wacky?

Sibling is Noah

I don't like it. Chaim would invite all sorts of mispronunciations. Kyam doesn't sound good either.

EssentialHummus · 18/06/2016 23:00

It isn't a name, and it sounds made up. "Chaim" is an old Jewish name meaning life, pronounced xha-eem (that first sound is a hard "G", as the Dutch pronounce it. Not sure how else to explain it.

NeedACleverNN · 18/06/2016 23:01

It's it a Jewish toast Confused?!

L'chaim?

spankhurst · 18/06/2016 23:01

I wouldn't. Kyle, Kai?

AuntieStella · 18/06/2016 23:04

Even though the spelling is different, the first thought that popped into my head was The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.

lollipoo · 18/06/2016 23:04

Not a fan of Kyle or Kai

I like the meaning "life" what other names have that meaning I wonder?

OP posts:
CocktailQueen · 18/06/2016 23:05

I don't like Kyam or Kai.

NeedACleverNN · 18/06/2016 23:06

What about Kian?

Kee-an

CocktailQueen · 18/06/2016 23:07

Have a look here for other names meaning 'life'.

OhThatThingAgain · 18/06/2016 23:09

Reminds me of Victor Kiam (the way you are thinking of pronouncing it) Remington could be a middle name?

Seriously don't, it's a Jewish toast. There are some other nice Abrahamic names out there that will go nicely with Noah.

I think the pronunciation for Chaim would Kai-eem in Hebrew.

EssentialHummus · 18/06/2016 23:24

Seriously don't, it's a Jewish toast

The toast comes from the name - le chaim - to life.

Footle · 18/06/2016 23:32

It is a name that means Life, as do Zoe and Eve. Chaim Herzog was the 6th President of Israel.

Wolfiefan · 18/06/2016 23:33

Khyam is a tent manufacturer!

Hushabyelullaby · 19/06/2016 00:06

What about Kier? (Pronounced Keer)

thisoldhouse1239 · 19/06/2016 00:12

I have a lovely Khyam awning.

GertrudeSmellsDivine · 19/06/2016 00:12

I paid £££ for a Khyam Rigi pod when they first came out. Fantastic idea but the damned thing leaked like a secret.

Not a good name choice what with that and the nose hair clipper guy.

sparechange · 19/06/2016 00:15

Kier is a building company
It is plastered over every bit of scaffolding
It would be like Bovis or Barrett

florascotianew · 19/06/2016 11:06

Keir (that spelling) is a Scottish surname sometimes used as a first name, as, for example, the famous politician (James) Keir Hardie. It's pronounced Key-rr.

NauticalIce · 19/06/2016 16:10

I don't like it at all. Doesn't go with Noah - which is lovely!

dailymaillazyjournos · 19/06/2016 23:52

Guy/Guido (both mean life)
Chai (Ch pronounced like you are clearing your throat - sort of a throaty 'hi' - hard to describe) - Chaim comes from the word chai - Hebrew for life.

lollipoo · 20/06/2016 20:45

Ok kyam is out now. What are thoughts on Liam, Mason or Miles? I think this is our shortlist now

OP posts:
dailymaillazyjournos · 20/06/2016 20:50

Absolutely LOVE Miles. I've only ever come across one (at my primary school nearly 50 years ago.) I've always loved it and would have called a ds that. Also know of a boy called Niles (which reminds me of Nile in Frasier which is one of my favourite characters on TV of all time :)

I'm not a great fan of Mason or Liam but just because I'm not, doesn't mean they're not good names.

lollipoo · 20/06/2016 21:02

I think that's my fave out of them but DH prefers Liam and mason is our middle ground

OP posts:
flamingnoravera · 20/06/2016 21:39

Liam is good. Mason is a surname. Miles is also nice, it is an anagram of smile.

Dontrocktheboat · 20/06/2016 21:46

Liam and Miles are OK, though don't think either go with Noah though.
Sorry I think Mason is awful.
Names that go with Noah - Theo, Ezra, Leon, Amos (my favourite!), Jude.
