Mirren?

Ok we're just ttc #2 and I'm already thinking of potential names.....have lots of boys name (and a DS) but struggle with girls names. I'm Scottish and love Mirren (which is a very Scottish name). DH says it's quite hard sounding.....thoughts?

Mirren was our second choice for a girl. Went with Lily as it's in the family but next time if it's a girl Mirren is definitely on the cards! Gorgeous name

Actually, I like it. I'm not Scottish so haven't heard of it as first name, but it does sound like a girl's name. It doesn't sound harsh at all in my accent, but perhaps it would in a rhotic Scots accent.

Yes Raines100. If you've ever watched Braveheart it's William Wallaces' wife's name. I went to uni with a Mirren and have always loved it but think it would take a bit of convincing for my DH...

I like it. With a Scottish accent I imagine it to be a rich sounding name, not harsh at all.

How about Merryn? Not Scottish, but softer and more feminine, I think.

Actually Marren or Merran were the usual Scottish forms of Marion, and more likely what Sir William Wallace's wife was know as, rather than Mirren or Murron. They are of different origins.

My friend's sister's name is Mairen. I think all the variations of Mirren (Mirryn is cool spelling too) is beautiful and soft and lovely.

Also on team love it! Also scottish, my dh also was not so keen. We have a Sadie but had I not also loved that so much I would have fought harder for mirren.

Well I thought "Helen" at first.

I prefer Merryn but I think that is more Welsh sounding. Maybe even Cornish. That was on our list for DD2.

Bu as you are Scottish I say go for it. It is quickly growing on me.

My name is Mirren!
It's very unusual, I have never met anyone with the same name. My Mom tells me that she sort of made it up (this was before Helen Mirren was very famous). There was the name "Tirren" in a baby book and she changed it to Mirren.

I really like it. I also like Mairwen and Mirain which are Welsh but have a similar vibe.

It's lovely (as long as you don't live in Paisley, but even then I'd go for it). A really pretty sounding name.
