Looks like the new Oscar!

I don't know any babies called Hugo but for some strange reason there are 5 Hugos in our school nursery class of 40 children! Only one other Hugo in the whole 3-13 school. Very strange.

CassandraAusten · 06/06/2016 09:45

I don't think I know a single person (child, baby or adult) called Hugo!

Mottled · 06/06/2016 10:38

I think it was a name that was more for the 'posh' but it has now filtered down and is being used by a lot of people. I don't like it myself.

Vixxfacee · 06/06/2016 10:39

Horrible name.

Sophronia · 06/06/2016 10:49

I prefer Hugh.

Openmindedmonkey · 06/06/2016 10:59

My daughter's hamster was called Hugo.

IoraRua · 06/06/2016 11:15

In my own school (Irish, Catholic) I don't think there's ever been a Hugo - however when we did a group event with the local Church of Ireland school I was shocked by how bloody many of them there were! Always thought it was interesting.

foxykins · 06/06/2016 11:18

I think all the Hugo's are being born now or are 2nonths - not born old!
Literally these 6 are born since April.

A kids' film called Hugo came out in 2011, so I wonder if that may have increased its popularity. It might be when it comes on TV /Dvd a couple of years later that it becomes more widely known.

HangingRockPicnic · 06/06/2016 11:24

I think it came on TV last xmas

BeStrongAndCourageous · 06/06/2016 11:25

That's it exactly it Mottled. I know three little Hugos, I think it's popular with people who think it's a bit posh. I think Jasper is the same - I know two of them.

Buggers · 06/06/2016 11:26

My cats called Hugo Grin. I love the name but I just can't imagine a baby would suit it for some reason..Hmm

marblestatue · 06/06/2016 14:48

I've never met a Hugo in my life.

manicinsomniac · 06/06/2016 15:29

Oooh, Openminded , I had a hamster called Hugo once too. Poor Hugo, I bought him while drunk (student days) and regretted it for the rest of his life Grin

Pipilangstrumpf · 06/06/2016 15:47

Hugo, Jasper, Quentin and Sebastian are all names that were once seen as 'posh' but have become more mainstream. I once read a chapter in Freakonomics explaining this 'trickling down' of names.

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/06/2016 11:46

Hugo makes me think of French Bulldogs and I really have no idea why.

HangingRockPicnic · 07/06/2016 12:02

I've not met any little Quentins yet.

Gummibaers · 07/06/2016 14:22

I know two Hugos aged 10 and under. I like it.

We have a Quentin btw. Only know one other of a similar age.

Mrscog · 07/06/2016 14:23

Ha ha I have a Hugo and an Oscar - the Hugo wasn't born this year though.

Millyonthefloss · 07/06/2016 14:27

It's excellent for Knock Knock jokes.

Millyonthefloss · 07/06/2016 14:30

And those old book title jokes.

I love the name Hugo, it was on my list for DS last year. It does sound a teeny bit posh I suppose but I still love it. I know one who is 6 years old, haven't met any baby Hugo's though.
