Just that really - which is your favourite, Violet, Margot or Iris? Any thoughts?

Iris

So hard...I love all these. All were on my list...well not Margot...I had Margaret.

I think...right now...that I would go for Margo because Violet is now very popular and Iris is not uncommon. Margot is so elegant.

Iris! I love it. Then Violet. Not keen on Margot.

Iris

Definitely Iris

Spottyladybird · 02/06/2016 07:19

Iris. Beautiful and elegant.

septembersunshine · 02/06/2016 07:21

Could you have Iris Margot? Iris is very cool. Margot is fine but it seems stuck in a different era to me, whereas the other two would sound good and well placed now (and in the future).

I dislike Violet (although it always seems very popular on here) - one letter away from Violent and I always think it's hard to say again and again (which you would have to do when calling a child) - doesn't flow nicely. Quite hard sounding too. Iris gets my vote!

julfin · 02/06/2016 07:24

Iris. Then Violet. Less keen on margot.

margiebargie · 02/06/2016 07:33

Margot is less popular and also has a lovely whiff of Frenchness about it. (I like Marion for the same reason - Marion Cotillard, basically.)

DoItTooJulia · 02/06/2016 07:47

Margot all the way. Love love love it!

LadyAntonella · 02/06/2016 08:23

Iris and Margot are lovely. I'm not keen on Violet - I think it's a bit too pretty / girlish for my tastes (to my ear anyway), while at the same time reminding me of the word violent!

So:

  1. Iris
  2. Margot

Down here somewhere) Violet

Margot.
Iris is a harsh and unfriendly name, IMO.
Violet is over done, plus only letter off being Violent.

Bellasima20 · 02/06/2016 15:28

Good friend just had a Violet and just adore this name. Don't know of any other rl Violets either my age (30) or baby names. Margot a bit old fashioned/old sounding to me and Iris makes me think of Iris in relation to eyes, not flowers and is so similar to Isis too, so big nono. When friend put Violet on fb/told friends have never heard such an outpouring of love for a girls name.

Loafingaround · 02/06/2016 15:35

Violet, hands down. Graceful, pretty, individual, slight whimsical/bohemian while still being elegant.

If Violet sounds like Violent (it doesn't!) then Iris sounds like Isis. No thanks.

workshyfop · 02/06/2016 15:42

Margot by a mile

LadyAntonella · 02/06/2016 15:54

Loafing, I heard a little girl being called Isis (she looked about 10 so I guess was named before the so-called IS came into being). It was probably a name first - an Egyptian goddess wasn't it?

Scattymere · 02/06/2016 16:00

Isis is/was a name before now yes but think its another matter if you intend your DD to be called Iris as a gentle, flowery name and it gets often mistaken for Isis instead...

I love Violet from those names the most, by far.

Sukistjames · 02/06/2016 16:02

Iris. It's my DD's middle name!

LadyAntonella · 02/06/2016 16:03

Oh Lord, is Iris meant to be a "gentle, flowery name"??? And I love that name Sad.

In that case I've changed my mind entirely, go with Margot OP! Grin

Candycoco · 02/06/2016 16:14

Margot

n0ne · 02/06/2016 16:53

Love them all! DD was nearly a Margot, but I'm feeling Iris at the moment
