What do you think of the name?

I should add that I'm not pregnant or ttc but if circumstances change then I'd consider this name.

I like it (know one in RL, and also always think of The Chalet School)

But the nn Lav/Lavvie is likely to crop up at some point

pinkyredrose · 29/05/2016 12:25

I think people would end up calling her Lav!

AdrenalineFudge · 29/05/2016 12:27

Stella I'd thought that too wrt Lav comparisons. I also speak french and Lave would also raise some eyebrows in that language too. I've always wanted to use this name so I don't think I'd care but then again it's not me that would have to live with the name.

I immediately thought 'lavatory'. Your kid would be called toilet. Sorry

1horatio · 29/05/2016 16:25

Lavender is so lovely. But the "lavatory thing"... Maybe it's middle name material?

I really like flower names. A friend of mine has a baby called Magnolia, which is a fabulous name, imo :)

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 29/05/2016 17:34

Nice name but the nn Lav Lavvie would give me concerns.
How about Lilac.

CatherineDeB · 29/05/2016 17:36

I wouldn't worry about the Lav thing, I know a Lavinia and she has always been Lavinia or Vin.

Frrrrrrippery · 29/05/2016 17:38

I presume you are joking?

Having said that if you surname matched your MN nickname then I think it might be a goer.

Lavender Fudge has a certain something Wink

DerelictMyBalls · 29/05/2016 18:06

I work with a Lavender. She is one of the poshest people I have ever met.

Frrrrrrippery · 29/05/2016 18:12

Lavinia is better.

ExitPursuedByBear · 29/05/2016 18:14

I think it's lovely

MitzyLeFrouf · 29/05/2016 18:49

Lavender has a lovely sound but any name that starts with Lav would be a no go for me.

namelessposter · 29/05/2016 19:17

I think it's gorgeous. 9-12 yrs old there will be some teasing from her peers, but for the other 97 years of her life she will be envied for her beautiful name.

AdrenalineFudge · 29/05/2016 19:43

Frrrrrrippery Grin, I'm not joking, my surname sounds French although it isn't French but Lavender would work with it I think. I don't think I can have children which is a whole other thread but I've always thought if by a strike of lightning I did have a girl I'd call her Lavender Smile.

I'd avoid it for the potential nicknames.

I think of these as quite similar but without the "lav" problem... Larissa, Violet, Leonora, Valerie, Valentina, Evelina, Venetia, Vivienne, Lorelei, Laila, Laurel or Liliana.

ApocalypseNowt · 29/05/2016 21:11

Isn't Lavender meant to help you sleep?

I call it very VERY wishful thinking.....

francis223 · 30/05/2016 21:51

I love it and it was and still is on my girl list.

cecilelliott · 01/06/2016 09:36

Prefer Lavinia, Lilac or even Lovage!

BertrandRussell · 01/06/2016 09:41

"I think it's gorgeous. 9-12 yrs old there will be some teasing from her peers, but for the other 97 years of her life she will be envied for her beautiful name."

"Don't worry about being made miserable every day for 3 years, darling [incidentally, I think you are overestimating the sophisitication of most teenagers and many adults] I know best, and I promise that you'll love the name soon"

Chimchar · 01/06/2016 10:06

It's very Harry Potter. I like it. Grin

Good luck, and I hope you get your little Lavender one day x

MumOnACornishFarm · 01/06/2016 10:14

It's pretty, but I would also worry about the possible nicknames or short versions. It makes me think of Roald Dahl's Matilda, which is no bad thing Smile

Haffdonga · 01/06/2016 10:17

Sweet, but you'd have to get in there quickly with a suitable abbreviation to avoid Lavvie /Lav sticking.

Lavender known as Lulu for short?
Lavender known as Vennie?
Lala?
Venda?
Vi?
Der? Confused

It's a tricky one.

MumOnACornishFarm · 01/06/2016 10:18

Lol at Der Smile

Flowerpower14 · 04/06/2016 21:07

I love it! But i do see the nicknames arent fantastic. It reminds me of the little girl in matilda which i also love. 👍🏻
