So baby boy due and want to name him after OH father who unfortunately passed away. His name was Joe and I love the name but wanted something a bit different so our thoughts are to call the baby Joey. Does the name Joey just completely not sound like he would is named after OH father as it sounds loads different?

I like Joe, I do like Joey but I think of Friends straight away! The only other alternative is Joseph.
If you both like Joey go for it.

Lilacpink40 · 27/05/2016 23:43

I like Joseph and then nn Joey.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 28/05/2016 21:26

Joey is fine but I'd go for Joseph, Jonah, Josiah or Joel with Joey as a nick name.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/05/2016 21:28

Joseph nn joey as a baby, then he can call himself Joe or Jos as he gets older.

Lovely name.

I'd go for Jonathan and use the nn Joey.

I've never met a Jonathan who went by Joey, all Jonathans I know just go by Jonathan, Jonny, or Jon.

DB is Joseph and spent his childhood called Joey. He's 24 now and mostly goes by Joseph at work and Joe at home. I know he likes the flexibility it allows him. I still call him Joey because he's my baby brother.

NapQueen · 29/05/2016 08:22

Joey is great! Use that

BikeRunSki · 29/05/2016 08:25

I agree - a longer Joe name, nn Joey. Joey is a bit cutesy for an adult.

I know a Jonathan know as Jo, but I would chose Joshua.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/05/2016 08:28

I know a Jonathan known as Jo too.

pilates · 29/05/2016 08:41

Joseph on the birth certificate and Joe/Joey as a nickname.

1horatio · 29/05/2016 14:25

I also know a Jonathan known as Jo(e), which is why I suggested it :)

But I also like Joshua... So, I'd go for Jonathan (which I slightly prefer) or Joshua and use the nn Joey or Joe.

Jonah?
Joel?

Joey is a lovely name.
