Opinions on our shortlist please

DH and I can't agree on a name for our baby due in a couple of months.

I love Martha but DH isn't sure.

I also like Erin but DH says he wants a name with English origins and it's an Irish name.

DH likes Henrietta and I do like the nn Hettie but not keen on the full name. He also likes Hazel and Heather.

For a boy we like Arthur and I love Rupert but worry about people thinking it's a bit posh.

So opinions needed please

I like Martha and Erin, your husband's choices not so much. What about Harriet if you like Hettie as a nn?
Arthur is very popular at the moment, Rupert is cute but a bit posh for my tastes. If you love it, use it though!

I love Martha, but weirdly hate Arthur.

Rupert is lovely, but I do think it's posh.

Henrietta/Hettie are fine; I like Etta better.

Suggestions are quite hard! Hmm..

I know quite a lot of Ruperts, I don't think it's posh. I also think they tend to get shortened to Roo which then joins the Reubens and Rorys out there making it less posh!

Why does your husband think Henrietta is of English origin? Henry was originally a French name, wasn't it?

Tbh, I don't like any of your names, especially the boys, I can't understand why so many people think Arthur is a great name.

I like Erin, not keen on Henrietta but love Hettie. How about Heather with nn Hettie?

Martha. No I don't like it. Too old and stern.
Erin is okay but a bit bland.
Henrietta. One of the most horrible names there is like Martha very stern. Don't like Hetty, either.
Both Hazel and Heather are gorgeous.

Don't like your boys names sorry but, If they were the only names in the world. I'd go with Arthur.

Erin is my favourite, or you could have my lovely DGD's name Anya, very pretty and unusual. She's 16 and we've never come across another one. I like Lydia too. I don't care for the old fashioned names that are coming back (Martha and Arthur) As for "poshness" Henrietta has to be one of the poshest names I know! Someone mentioned Harriet which is nice. I also have a DGD (step) called Hazel who is coming 30. I don't much like the name though.

Boys - Arthur is very popular - there are 2 in our road both aged 3 and I know 2 more locally. Not sure what else you'd like. My DGS is Finlay but I think that's Scottish even though he's half Irish! My eldest son is Toby and in his 40s and we've never come across another! His second name is Oliver and it was very unusual then but oh SO popular now.

Out of those, Heather. Harriet would be much nicer than Henrietta, as pp said.

Don't like either of your boys' names, sorry.

If you both like Arthur, use it!

I think Erin has been used for a long time and sort of lost its distinctive ethnicity. Plus it's my favourite one from the list.
