Alice?

Thoughts? Tend to like to names that can have a nickname shortening so not sure it fits the bill, but do like the name.

Classic and timeless. I think I'd shorten Alison to Ali / Ally, which I think sounds really nice and friendly.

It's a lovely name. You could shorten it to Al but doesn't need shortening.

Our youngest is Alice, she's the only one we know. Her siblings call her Allie.

I thought it pretty without it being too different or flouncy and you can't spell it wrongly.

She is 19 and it has always suited her

A friend said it was boring and old fashioned but I do like it. Have seen the nickname Lissy/Lissie mentioned somewhere but don't think it's the obvious choice.

We named our first child a similar traditional name and had a cool and sweet shortening / nickname which we used until she turned around at about 3 or 4 and told us firmly that her proper name was not the nickname and not to call her by anything except her proper name!!

I like it. You could use Ali or Lissy as nicknames if you really wanted to.

DS2 and DS3 would have been called Alice if they were girls. I think it is a lovely, ageless name.

LOVE Alice. Would have been top of my list were it not for an awkward family member also called Alice who would tell the world the baby was named after her...grrr!

manic Love Kitty but not as keen on Katherine/Kathleen as a full name. Do like Philippa (Pippa). Harriet is lovely but we already have one in the family. Like Connie but not keen on Constance, it seems a bit too formal.

I wonder if Allie/Ally or Lissie would stick as a nickname, we'd like a name that will be formal for when she's older if she ever became a doctor etc but with a shorter nickname that can be used everyday. i.e. Jennifer/Jenny.

I have one. Shortened to Ali. Lengthened to alligator when she's being a grump.

I think it's a fab name but when we were doing our shortlist it was inextricably linked with the song for us. Sorry

It's a bit meh to me. I just find it a bit bland and dull and flat sounding. I think the shortening of Al is quite masculine so I'd go for Allie. Having said that I love the list posted above and pretty much think all those suggestions are leaps and bounds above Alice.

I'm an Alice. I get called "Al" by a few people but mostly Alice. I like my name, it's not too trendy and you can't tell how old I am from it. It's also not twee or girly which I'd hate.

We have an Alice, so I'm obviously biased,but we love it! Short and sweet, and we tend to shorten it to Al.
