DH has never been too interested when picking names but suggested Lorenza last night, I'm trying hard to like it what are people opinions?

I know two little boys called Lorenzo, both of Italian decent.
There was BBC TV series roughly a year ago, one of the minor characters was a scary old Italian peasant woman called Lorenza. She was a very lazy waitress in a restaurant, but could fight too, if necessary. It was a comedy BTW.

Monkeypuzzlesandwich · 10/05/2016 07:19

I like it for a girl. I also know a boy called Lorenzo. If it was for a girl it would naturally get shortened to Loren which is nice is pronounced like that but it would probably end up being Lauren.

mrsschu · 10/05/2016 09:14

I don't like it and not too keen on Lorenzo for a boy either. For some reason I hear the word "lizard" when I say it.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 10/05/2016 09:44

It is unusual and the sound is only a couple of letters extra from Lauren which I like so I could get used to it. (No earthly help to you).
There's a Chilean actress by that name isn't there.

julfin · 10/05/2016 22:55

I like it right up until the "za".

Could you steer him towards Lauren? Laura? Florence? Floriane? (If you like those obvs).

EllenDegenerate · 10/05/2016 23:23

How about Lorena?

I think you've got to be either Italian or über cool to pull off Lorenza.

Who knows though, your DD might manage it so if you love it I wouldn't be put off.

Winterbiscuit · 10/05/2016 23:41

I like Lorenza.

Louisa could be a similar option too.

mathanxiety · 11/05/2016 06:26

I really like Lorenza. Sounds gorgeous. I love Kerenza too.

Lorenza is a little like Kerenza plus Lauren (another very nice name imo).

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 11/05/2016 06:32

It's a very old granny Italian name.

ABitAsleep · 11/05/2016 12:33

Don't really like it

Kind of reminds me of a Doctor Who baddie (or was that Lazarus?)

RiverTam · 11/05/2016 12:41

I know of Lorenzo for a boy, never heard of Lorenza. It's OK.

julfin · 12/05/2016 07:23

I like Ellen's suggestion of Lorena.

joyfulworld · 12/05/2016 08:27

I think it's a nice name. I like it.

Pipilangstrumpf · 12/05/2016 10:52

I think I prefer the French versions of Laurence or Florence (female versions of Laurent and Florent).

badtime · 12/05/2016 13:07

I like Lorenza. Lo, Lori, Loren, Ren, Reni, Renza.

I certainly like it a lot more than Lorena (which sounds like a redneck name - Mrs Bobbitt who cut off her husband's penis back in the 90s was called Lorena) or Lauren.
