Views on Effie

We have had a few raised eyebrows when we have said DD (due in July) will be called Effie, FIL said "why can't you pick a normal name for once?" (DS is Rudy and its like marmite).

DH and I love both the names we have picked for our children but I just wondered what MNs views are on Effie? Is it another marmite name?

Effie is a cat's name, imo.

Rudy is fantastic though!

I can seeing her being called 'effing' at school. Do you want that for your child?

Effie Gray. Bit wispy/fey/flimflammy for me.

It's cute but only with a full name behind it. And the teasing potential is problematic.

I love it, but then I tend to love marmite names.

It's one of those names that gets mentioned a lot on MN but I agree with RiverTam that's it's a bit wispy and flimsy. I don't mind shortened names as full names but this one seems very nickname-y.

I do like Effie, but as others have said it's bit .. eff off effie, effing hell... etc.

I always loved Marnie but then you could say "moody marnie..." tbh, someone will object to pretty much whatever name you choose. So just go with what you love!

Ref longer name to abbreviate.... I do love Persephone. so she could be ephie for short! (or Percy)

I do quite like it. Can see kids in school calling her sweary words though.

Also makes me think of take the high road(if you're Scottish you may know Effie. She was also in Balamory. Now dead)
