I absolutely love both Effie and Frankie for our daughter, she would be given a full name of either Josephine with Effie for short or Francesca with Frankie for short.

Middle names probably Florence Anne

So

'Effie' Josephine Florence Anne
'Frankie' Francesca Florence Anne

Go on, hit me with your thoughts?

I can imagine kids having a field day with Effie when they're older - Effing [Surname]. Or making it sound like Heavy if she has a big build.

I like Josephine but prefer Josie for short.

doctorsnoddy · 04/05/2016 18:16

I have an aunt Effie , In her case it's short for Euphemia. Not so keen!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/05/2016 18:21

Josephine is beautiful. Effie is cute, as is JoJo...

Maverick66 · 04/05/2016 18:26

Francesca and Frankie for short

Effie is dull and wishy washy so I would go for Frankie out of the two.

DerelictMyBalls · 04/05/2016 19:23

Of the two, I would choose Effie because I really dislike Frankie. But it does sounds like 'effing'.

chicaguapa · 04/05/2016 19:28

I like Frankie. Agree that Effie sounds like Effing.

Stumpysmum · 04/05/2016 20:41

I'm not overly phased by the swearing thing, I can imagine people saying oh effing Effie xxxxxx surname, but it's no more than people saying Alice, alice who the feck is Alice and I still think Alice is a beautiful name. Or effing insert any name you want.

On the other hand it had never occurred to me that kids could like it to heavy. That would not be good.

There are a couple of shortenings of Francesca that I really can't stand but most of the shortenings of Josephine are nice.

Thanks for your thoughts all, very helpful.

Of course, the real full version of Effie is Euphemia but I'm not going there.

Effie and Josephine are great names.

butteredmuffin · 04/05/2016 20:50

Josephine and Francesca are both beautiful names. Why don't you wait until she's born and see which one feels right?

If it were me I would go for Josephine, but you can't go wrong with either.

Stumpysmum · 04/05/2016 21:25

Buttered think you've got the best suggestion there, we'll wait to meet her before deciding for definite, but I think we have a front runner.

When are you due, OP?

RiverTam · 04/05/2016 21:41

Effie, I think of Effie Gray (Ruskin's wife). Tbh it sounds like a posh wet girl's name to me, all wispy and flimflammy.

Don't like Frankie at all, very try-hard.

Junosmum · 05/05/2016 09:02

Prefer effie to Frankie (I hate Frankie) but prefer Francesca to Josephine

LizzieMacQueen · 05/05/2016 09:10

Surprised at the hatred for Frankie here, that's my niece's name.

With Effie you might get people assuming she is an Euphemia other than that I like it though prefer a single 'f', Efie with a lightly different pronunciation, (ee-fee).

Do you like Elspeth?

TickleMyTeacakes · 05/05/2016 10:33

Well I really like the name Frankie! And Francesca.

Effie is too wispy as RiverTam said and Josephine is just not my cup of tea. At all. It's my mother's middle name and she's always despised it. But then I've never been a fan of any of those Mumsnet favourites like Florence and Harriet. To me they're just ugly names best left in the past. No offence to any Harriets, Florences or Josephines who may be reading. Wink
