Rory or Cormac

I've had another couple of threads about our impending arrival and we have now narrowed it down to Rory or Cormac.
Initially I asked you all about Ruairi but having tested it out on some people I'm too worried about the pronunciation issue in England and if he is shy like I was, he won't want to stand out.

Rory is a quite popular which makes me lean to Cormac but I like the meaning of Rory as our ds may well have reddish hair, it's also really cute on a little one whilst still being a good strong man's name. I'm finding it harder to imagine Cormac on a baby but you might all have different ideas.
What does everyone think?

I knew a couple of Rory's growing up in Ireland but haven't met any recently. I like it !! I'd have liked to use it of is had a second.

Rory is lovely and it's really not that popular I don't think, especially in England if that's where you are. It's lovely that it would have meaning for you too if your DS turns out to be a red head.

I'm not a big fan of Cormac. No particular reason, I'm just not keen on the sound. It's a bit like Tarmac or Caramac or something medicinal maybe like Carmex.

Cormac sounds like a priest to me. I like Rory though.

Just to add, it's worth thinking of how the name would sound where you live.

Where I am for example, Cormac would become Caw-mack as people here don't pronounce rs. I think Rory would still be Rory here because the ry would sound the same here as in Ireland.

Obviously you might like or even prefer the Caw-mack pronunciation. Just worth considering maybe.

Good point about Cormac. It might sound better in an Irish accent. With my accent you can't hear the 'r' at all which loses its appeal slightly.

I definitely prefer Cormac.

Thanks sgoin, I think you were on my previous thread. It is almost impossible to find that perfect name isn't it!
I still love Ruairi the most but I figured the fact that I have so many reservations about it should be enough to put me off. When I'm tired and emotional with a newborn baby and my family/friends are are saying 'huh? How do you say it again?' I think I would lose it!
I think I will leave the final decision to when he is born though.

This is probably irrelevant to you,, but where I live Cormac is the name of the company contracted to maintain the roads.

Their slogan is 'Cormac cares about Cornwall'
