I don't know if we are brave enough to use this name!

We went on a trip to Australia; there's a really beautiful bird - we feel in love with the name of it, so it's basically a nature name!

There was only 5 girls given the name in 2014, in the UK...

The name is Rosella...

I'm just not sure we are brave enough to use it though! I love that she could be called Rose/Rosie/Ella/Elle/Ellie, etc.

I'd call her by Rosella though, maybe Rose for short.

We have not told family yet, but I know my mum will hate it.

What do you think? If not, she'll probably be Darcy.

Honestly you should go with this name it's really lovely. It's different but not 'daft' perfectly mainstream nick names if you/ others choose to use one. Love it!😊

carabos · 24/04/2016 22:24

I know two Roselles. Not Rosellas though. They're both in their 20s.

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 24/04/2016 22:25

I think it's lovely, wouldn't raise an eyebrow

carabos · 24/04/2016 22:25

The Roselles pronounce it Roz-ell. Not Rose - ell.

AliceInUnderpants · 24/04/2016 22:27

Oh I was hoping for a kerfuffle on this thread, bit saddened that it's a lovely name Wink

FunnysInLaJardin · 24/04/2016 22:28

I live in Jersey and Roselle is a popular name with the ageing population and very similar to a bay here called Rozel. You should absolutely go for it, its is a lovely name.

EagleRay · 24/04/2016 22:32

It's lovely - just announce it when it's finalised. From my own experience, people are far less likely to be rude once you've actually decided.

Undercooked · 24/04/2016 22:32

Rosella is a nice name. Darcey is really not a nice name at all.

Darcey is to the 20-teens what "Sharon" was to the 80s.

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 24/04/2016 22:36

Lovely name :)

EweAreHere · 24/04/2016 22:37

I think it would make a lovely name for a little girl.

Onedaftmonkey · 24/04/2016 22:39

Absolutely go for it. It's a beautiful name. And such a lovely reminder of your wonderful holiday. Sod the old's it's your child.Good luck 😊

TimeOfGlass · 24/04/2016 22:39

Rosella is very pretty.

cdtaylornats · 24/04/2016 22:40

Sounds a bit like Roseola - a rash common in children

WelliesTheyAreWonderful · 24/04/2016 22:41

Crikey I thought you were about to suggest Emu. Lovely name, especially as you can use the nn Rose! Don't tell anyone until she's born though, we had decided on our DS's name months in advance, excitedly told DM and didn't like her reaction! I doubt she'd have been so 'meh' about it if she'd had him in her arms at the time!

neonrainbow · 24/04/2016 22:43

I thought you were going to say kookaburra Smile i have no idea why rosella isn't more popular. Ever since i used to look after some about 10 years ago I've thought it would make a stunning name.

Xmasbaby11 · 24/04/2016 22:45

That's a lovely name. I've not heard it before but I don't think it's outrageous. Go for it!

DerelictMyBalls · 24/04/2016 22:48

Lovely name. I feel a new trend coming on...,

Sophronia · 24/04/2016 22:49

I like it, it's much nicer than Darcy!

Queenie73 · 24/04/2016 22:50

I used to have a Rosella. It was a squawking, biting, savage bastard. I believe it had a name, but it was always just referred to as That Bastard Bird. So I'm a bit biased and wouldn't use it. I was actually quite relieved when it fell off its perch!

n0ne · 25/04/2016 07:28

I don't think it's that out there. I like it! Much prefer it to Darcy (which is my ln so it always makes me feel weird to see it as a fn, plus it seems so American).

wineandcheeseplease · 25/04/2016 07:35

Beautiful name that isn't too out there or wacky!

i think they are called rosella gallahs. In Australia they call people gallahs as an insult for being stupid so that would be on my mind.

Rose Ella is however a beautiful name.

Laquila · 25/04/2016 07:43

Rosella is lovely, but please believ when I say it's best not to tell anyone beforehand, even if you think you won't get annoyed by anyone being negative! It's just not worth the risk!

2016namechangecomingalong · 25/04/2016 07:46

Another one waiting for kookaburra Grin

Rosella is fine, there are a lot worse names on here that people think are lovely!
