When you're not 100% sure.

With our first dc we had firm favourite names well before the birth, DP and I were both agreed and 100% committed. It turned out to be the perfect name for ds and everyone loved it.

Fast forward to second dc due any day now, and this time we have names lined up, but have reservations about them for one reason or another. They don't feel as 'right' if you know what I mean. Neither of us are passionate enough about any names and so we don't have that wonderful feeling when you know you have it right.

Anyone else had this? Will it all work out OK? Honestly we've looked at so many books and lists of names we can't bear to look at any more. I'm not looking for suggestions, just reassurance really.

We had about 4 possibles for ds2.
We didn't call him any of them...

When did you make your final decision then Cuppa? And how??

When you see him or her, a name will feel right. I've never been decided about a name before the birth - but then when you see them, you have a sense that they suit Fred more than George or whatever, and you know.

I think sometimes they have to grow into their name. We knew DD1's name before she was born, and she was born 3 weeks early so we didnt have chance to change our minds! With DD2, we had lists for girl and boy names (we didn't find out the sex second time around) but couldn't make a decision. In the end we were forced to just pick a name as the registration deadline was looming, and it just became her name. I can't imagine her being called anything else.

I'm in exactly the same boat! We both loved our sons name but we don't feel the same about any names this time around.

We have decided not to find out the sex this time but that makes it harder to think of 2 names. Our 20 week scan is on Monday and I'm tempted to find out the sex just to make name choosing easier!

I was exactly the same it took me 2weeks after dd2 was born to finally come to a choice and if im honest it was more what my dp and dd wanted though i do love it i definitely wasnt as certain as i was with my first x

With dd2 I had a couple of names, and had sort of decided on one bit it didnt really feel right so I just told people I hadnt decided.

The first time I held her I looked at her and said a name, which was a short version of a name of someone I had met briefly when pregnant, but a difftent one to the one she used and not one I had even thought of.

I knew that was her name, but still called her baby for two weeks. She now has the full name, but never uses it she always goes by the shortening I said when she was born.

I really wasn't sure about any name for dd3. We ended up going with dh's choice as we were running out of time to register the birth. She is 13 weeks and tbh I'm still not sure about her full name. I call her a nn which doesn't relate to her real name. I'm hoping she will grow into her name and I will grow to love it. Maybe it's because I know she's my last baby that I feel like this ...

This happened to me. I couldn't feel that I loved any names I felt I could use. I plonked for one, and it was ok, but I realised I wasn't using it and calling DS 'the baby'. At four months old, I decided it actually was ok to use I'd thought (family reasons) I couldn't, but did love, so I changed his name formally and got a new birth certificate.

I don't think it does always become clear as soon as you see your baby's face. But I got there in the end and love his name as it is now.
