Olivia or Millie?

These two names have been favourites but just not sure?

I would like a nice girly name so any other names are welcome!

I'm not mad keen on either but if pushed would go for Millie, perhaps as a short form of Millicent or Emmeline?

Millie makes me think of a millipede.

I have a millie so that gets my vote

Olivia for me.

I prefer Olivia and it's more classic. I know Olivia's on various ages (adults and children) so I don't think it will date.

They are both lovely, but i would proably choose Millie (although i prefer Milly) Olivia is far far to popular right now for my liking

Millie is a bit babyish.

Olivia could be prime minister. Millie will never get any kind of leadership position because she has a little girly name.

Now I do not agree with that redexpat. I dislike it because it sounds babyish but I don't think people called Millie will be resigned to 'girlie' careers because of their name!

'Oh she's just what we've been looking for. A relevant PHD, ten years experience and stint peace keeping in the Middle East..........but wait, she's called Millie!'

Alice is a beautiful name.

There were 3 Millies (one of them a Millie-May) in the health centre waiting room while I was waiting for an appointment so it's a v common name at the moment (Think I was there at the same time as baby clinic and kept hearing babies being called in so heard their names). Also don't think it sounds like a proper name, more a shortening of a name.

Olivia is pretty

I have a Millie (short for Millicent), and love the name. She is nearly 10 though- no others in her school year. Olivia is much more common around here, from nursery onwards. And Isabella- can't move for Isabella/Bellas here.

DD2 is Philippa (Pippa), so I will throw that out as a girly name. DD2 is very girly. The chances of her stealing her older brother's clothes like dd1 are nil. .

It depends where youre from as to how popular the names are. Where we are Olivia is extremely popular and there are multiples in each class whereas Millie is not at all. Including my daughter i know of 3, the other 2 are in year 9, my daughter is 7 and there are no others in her primary school. (Except for one that is a Millie-Mae shes 10)

Squoosh it's a thing, I'm not making it up. Your name CAN affect your life chances. I can't link on my phone but there are lots of articles online.

Neither - they are both too popular at the moment

If I had to choose, it would be Olivia, but either would date her like anything. They are to this generation what Claire and Joanne were to ours.

Nina as suggested by a pp actually means 'girl' - you can't get much more 'girly' than that, and it is very cool. Or Polly, of Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf fame? What a role model :)
