If I've got a Thaddeus...

...can I also have an Atticus?

Is it too similar? I don't mind them being a bit similar sounding but some days I think it's absolutely fine and others I think it would be too much.

DC2 due soon!

I love the name Thaddeus! I don't think they're too similar.

WordGetsAround · 11/04/2016 21:34

Great! I'll not check the thread again as the first poster has the right answer (well, the one I wanted, anyway!).

Thank you Bendy!

I think it's fine.

MitzyLeFrouf · 12/04/2016 10:40

My Dad is a Thaddeus and he has a brother called Cornelius. So yes, I think they sound fine together.

WordGetsAround · 12/04/2016 10:43

Thank you both.

Cornelius is a great name! Might add that to the list!

This is very helpful as I had begun to think maybe they are too samey (DH thinks they are), but this is giving me hope!

They are perfect together.

WordGetsAround · 12/04/2016 13:12

Thank you - this is looking good!

MamaLazarou · 12/04/2016 13:16

They sound OK together but Atticus is very faddy.

I love Cornelius.

Teacaddy · 12/04/2016 16:45

Both lovely names, but they do sound too samey to me, sorry. I'm with your DH. The similarity of the endings sort of detracts from the individual niceness and strength of each name, and makes them sound a bit matchy-matchy and three-piece-suite-y. Sorry - I know that's not what you wanted to hear!

Cornelius is cool. Though all the ones I know under the age of 80 are known as Con.

averythinline · 12/04/2016 19:26

Love corneilus but do think too much of an us at the end for both, sort of takes away from both...how about Montgomery or Finch or Hudson or

WordGetsAround · 12/04/2016 20:13

Oh no! Tide is turning! Thanks for your comments - will just have to live with them for a while.

I love Cornelius but think DH might draw the line at that!

I also love Solomon but think it is s little like 'solomn'.

OP posts:
Teacaddy · 12/04/2016 20:21

Solomon is lovely, and not often used. And a cool Biblical forebear!

I doubt many people would make the link with 'solemn'. It has an aura of slightly cool wisdom for me...

MamaLazarou · 12/04/2016 20:24

How about Mortimer?

Sorry but they sound too similar to me.

Thaddeus and Atticus are both brilliant, classic names that work really well together imo. Theu're not at all similar sounding imo. I like them both very much.

Somerville · 12/04/2016 23:30

Ooh I clicked because I have a Thaddeus-middle-named child and then I saw it's you, Word.

Thaddeus and Atticus do kind of rhyme but that's cute. Do it, do it, do it!

And I'm howling at I'll not check the thread again as the first poster has the right answer - if only the whole of MN could be like that Grin

WordGetsAround · 13/04/2016 16:49

Somer - it's you! I am your number one fan! Even more so now that you are a fellow Thaddeus lover! (I have literally just posted on your Jane Austin-type thread - highly recommended by me to everyone reading this!) - and am beyond excited by your happy ending!)

I think I might just go for it - thanks for the encouragement!

I think

OP posts:
WordGetsAround · 13/04/2016 16:51

Ooooo - I don't know what I think - not sure where that came from!!

OP posts:
Somerville · 13/04/2016 16:57

Yeah last night I saw your comment on my thread, then clicked on this, then laughed. We have the same taste in baby names, clearly. When's DC2 due and do you know it's a boy or do you need a girl's name too?

Dunno yet if it's a happy ending but it's at least a slice of happiness to enjoy right now. Smile

WordGetsAround · 13/04/2016 16:59

Happy ending might not have been correct phrase anyway as its a beginning not an ending!

Not had 20 week scan yet but will find out when we do - can't wait! Thinking Esther for a girl! Know it's not everyone's taste but think it's so strong and feisty - I love it!

OP posts:
WordGetsAround · 13/04/2016 17:00

Sorry - way too many exclamation marks

OP posts:
Hiddlesnake · 13/04/2016 17:04

Thaddeus and Esther are an amazi g combination!
What about Thaddeus and Ezra as a set of brothers?

Somerville · 13/04/2016 17:07

If you can't exclaim about pregnancy and baby names then what can you exclaim about?!

Esther is really nice, and does have strong and feisty connotations, I agree.

Pleeeease update us after scan?!!

Shemozzle · 15/04/2016 00:20

Atticus is my top boys name closet followed by Thaddeus. Does Thaddeus get his full name or is it often shortened? As that will make a difference to the fact they rhyme. But I don't think they are too samey, I say go for it.

Since you have two of my top favourites I'll assume we have the same taste and share some of my others for you to consider. Rafferty, Rufus, Rupert, Magnus, Ignatius (Iggy for nn) Icarus.

Cassiopeia (Cassie), Persephone (Percy), Antigone (Tiggy), Harriet (Hattie), and Ramona.

ShmooBooMoo · 15/04/2016 00:27

I like Leopold.
