Fine as a nickname with William on the BC. Smile

twinjocks · 05/04/2016 16:22

Love it. I probably wouldn't even bother with William on birth cert.

Sophronia · 05/04/2016 16:33

I have a Billy with William on bc, and wish we'd been brave enough to just call him Billy. Confuses elderly relatives and me in the doctors!

NewLife4Me · 05/04/2016 18:02

William is a wonderful name Grin

Willy until about 2.5
William
Will.

I wanted Billy, but ds would only be Will Sad

LizzieMacQueen · 05/04/2016 18:06

I wouldn't use Billy if I lived in Glasgow, other than that it is quite cute.

Yes, with William

NewLife4Me · 05/04/2016 18:40

The problem is though if you want them to be called Billy, William is no use because they may find/ their friends may find Bill, or Will.
No matter how many times I tried to use Billy mine just wasn't having it.

What's wrong with Billy in Glasgow? Confused

Jackiebrambles · 05/04/2016 18:48

We've got a William and my husband always wanted him to be billy but it never stuck! He's just William right now. Great name.

Mclaren37 · 06/04/2016 01:53

I normally prefer the longer form of a name on the BC to give a kid options, but in this case I think Billy and William are actually quite different names. William will just end up as 'Will'. Nothing wrong with that but I much prefer Billy, it's fab name. You should just call him that.

Up here (Central Belt Scotland) it's the name that's passed down through the generations of families to swear their allegiance to King William of Orange and is associated with sectarianism - not keen for that reason

momb · 06/04/2016 13:27

Nice. By using the full name on BC youi can pick Billy as a boy and he can pick Bill as a man if he wants.

00100001 · 06/04/2016 15:07

If you put Billy on BC, he will get called William by all and sundry anyway - even if you only ever introduce him as Billy. I have a colleague called Jamie (on BC) and adults always call him James.

Boys names like Billy, are "babyish" and they will probably adopt a more "grown up" version later on in life. No doubt the BC Billy will be known as Bill when he's 43!

Babylove2015 · 06/04/2016 17:12

I know a lovely William called Bill.

I don't like Billy, however. I think Wills is much cuter for a little William.

Every William I have meet has been really sweet.

Flowerrr · 08/04/2016 16:31

I like it Smile
