My OH suggested Floyd as his fav baby name ages ago (he's a Pink Floyd fan). I groaned and said no way! Mentioned it to my mum who laughed and also thought no way. However it came up again recently with a group of three friends - and all three of them immediately cooed over what fabulous name Floyd would be! Questioning my initial reaction & interested to get a sense check on what the general opinion is?

I kind of like it, actually.

Newes · 03/04/2016 20:25

I like it. I mean, Pnk Floyd immediately springs to mind but that's not a bad thing, to me, anyway Grin

Pleasemrstweedie · 03/04/2016 20:26

I have a friend called Floyd. Great name!

It's a corruption of Lloyd. Could that be a compromise?

Itinerary · 03/04/2016 20:50

Yes, Pink Floyd does spring to mind and I think you'd have to get used to everyone saying that! It's also a bit flouride-y. It fits with the current trend for surnames as first names though.

EnglishFern · 03/04/2016 21:34

No.

2DaysToRegisterHim · 03/04/2016 21:53

I prefer Lloyd

Aiwo · 03/04/2016 22:14

I quite like it actually
I prefer Lloyd however

MoggieMaeEverso · 03/04/2016 22:18

I think it would grow on you. It's extremely cool and I'm sure nobody at school would blink an eye. Does it sound good with your last name?

WhatTheActualFugg · 03/04/2016 22:20

I saw Keith Floyd at a theatre once recalling stories from his life. It was really interesting. totally unhelpful

DramaAlpaca · 03/04/2016 22:21

I always say that I'm not much of a fan of surnamey names, but I like Floyd & think it's quite cool.

gingerbreadmanm · 03/04/2016 22:22

Love it but immediately think of the boxer floyd mayweather which would put me off a bit.

I once met a fletcher and his name really stuck with me in a good way, i think floyd had the same effect.

Floralnomad · 03/04/2016 22:27

I also automatically think of floyd Mayweather and Floyd Landis , so that puts me off .

Coldtoeswarmheart · 03/04/2016 22:30

It's OK, as long as your DS wouldn't mind the Pink Floyd connection.

WellErrr · 03/04/2016 22:31

Don't like it.

mrsschu · 03/04/2016 22:43

Dreadful.

GingerLeaves · 04/04/2016 01:18

I don't like it - Lloyd is much better Smile

Izzyathome · 04/04/2016 01:57

Thanks all. Obviously it's not quite as bad as I thought, I can see how it can be a cool name but I still don't think it's going to make it into the short list. It reminds me of boxers too. And I'm not keen on Lloyd, so if Floyd is 'worse than' rather than an improvement on that, then it's a no.

Pink Floyd doesn't come to mind for me at all, though. To me Floyd is a damp-handed, trainspotter-y kind of name. Meek Floyd from Accounts who wears comedy ties and can't look women in the eye.

Agree Lloyd is cooler.

pilates · 04/04/2016 09:14

Awful, sorry

Donge13 · 04/04/2016 09:52

We have 2 at the school I worked at.
I think it cute

ABitAsleep · 04/04/2016 10:11

Initial reaction was ewww... after thinking about it, still ewww...

Just not a pleasent sounding name.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/04/2016 10:21

Apart from Pink Floyd connection, I will always associate Floyd with Grin
