I'm not a fan of just John, I'm also not keen on Jonathan.

What do you think of Johnny. I know 2, where Johnny is their full name!

Thanks

I was going to say no because of Boden but they spell it -ie rather than -y. Maybe still a no if your surname starts with B and you live in a place with lots of Boden mums?

I think it sounds great and quite an underused name considering the popularity of names ending in a -y sort of sound like Harry, Ollie, Archie, Bertie.

MamaLazarou · 02/04/2016 18:59

I am not aware of any connection with Boden but Johnny is slang for lots of unpleasant things, which would put me off.

AuntieStella · 02/04/2016 19:07

I doubt it'll be much used for as long as people know what a rubber johnny is. Sorry.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 02/04/2016 21:30

Makes me think of condoms, sorry.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 02/04/2016 21:31

Condoms again.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/04/2016 21:33

Are condoms still called Johnnys? Thought that was really old fashioned.

Op, I like Johnny but it's too nicknamey for me, I like it as nn for jonathan.

squoosh · 02/04/2016 21:51

Johnny Cash
Johnny Depp
Johnny Flynn
Johnny Ramone
Johnny Thunders
And not forgetting Johnny Ball!

All cool (although J Depp is admittedly a bit less cool these days)

Great name.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/04/2016 21:57

Jonny Wilkinson!

badg3r · 02/04/2016 22:01

As a grown up he will spend a lot of time telly people it's not John or Jonathan. I think it's a bit mean because of the rubber Jonny association. I am only known by my nickname but have a grown up name on my official documents (think Lizzie and Elizabeth) and I much prefer it to bring just "Lizzie".

MitzyLeFrouf · 02/04/2016 22:03

I know loads of guys called Johnny and I've never heard any of them being teased with the condom association!

It's just a standard name in my world.

Chchchchangeabout · 02/04/2016 22:07

I would.find it a bit odd as a name rather than a shortened version of a name but it's fine

Chchchchangeabout · 02/04/2016 22:08

I also know a Jonny (shortened from a longer name) and condoms aren't an association that's ever come up.

GingerLeaves · 04/04/2016 17:44

I like it

MNetter15 · 04/04/2016 17:47

I think it's dreadful. 'John' isn't exactly exciting, but it's a name. Johnny is not.

squoosh · 04/04/2016 17:49

Of course it's a blimmin' name Confused

GingerLeaves · 04/04/2016 17:52

^Johnny isn't a name

I much prefer John or Jonathan. Johnnie sounds so nicknamey.
