Do you prefer the original "Leila"?

Loula117 · 23/03/2016 22:15

I prefer Leila yes, it's pretty though.

CoteDAzur · 23/03/2016 22:16

I believe the original is ليلى‎

SaveSomeSpendSome · 23/03/2016 22:16

I really like this name but prefer the spelling Layla rather than Leila which to me doesnt look like it is pronounced Layla

ermmm · 23/03/2016 22:21

Layla reads as it's pronounced. So Layla is preferred plus I know three Layla's.

voodoolooloo · 23/03/2016 22:25

I know two Leila's. Both pronounced Lee-la. I'd say Layla Lay-la. Both pretty.

MrsBungle · 23/03/2016 22:27

I like Layla and that spelling.

lljkk · 23/03/2016 22:27

It's fluffy, sorry. I like stronger consonants.

Sophronia · 23/03/2016 22:32

I prefer the Leila spelling

boobybum · 23/03/2016 22:39

Layla is nicer.
Leila is often pronounced lie-la.

ChimpyChops · 23/03/2016 22:53

I prefer Layla. Beautiful name but sadly one we cannot use here :/

MamaLazarou · 23/03/2016 22:58

Leila is much nicer, IMO. Layla strikes me as a bit 'dumbed down'.

mrsschu · 23/03/2016 23:35

I have a cousin called Leyla, just to throw another spelling into the mix. My uncle is Moroccan so I assume it's an authentic spelling?! Although they live in the US so maybe it's been American-ised! It's nice enough as a name I suppose.

RainIsAGoodThing · 23/03/2016 23:38

I knew a gorgeous, lovely, beautiful Layla. Her name suited her perfectly Smile

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 24/03/2016 01:59

If I saw Leila written down. I would assume it was pronounced Leela, I mean where's the "Ai" sound in the Leila spelling.
Layla, Laila or, Laela are the best spellings. IMO.

joyfulworld · 24/03/2016 08:15

Yes, I prefer Leila.

AuntieStella · 24/03/2016 08:23

I think it's a lovely name, and like both spellings.

But depending on the level of diversity in your area, you might want to think about your DC's likely appearance as the meaning 'night, dark beauty' can be well known.

Burgatroyd · 24/03/2016 08:23

However you spell it people will call her, Leila, Lyela, etc. I know one and her mum moans about this.

IoraRua · 24/03/2016 14:44

I prefer Leila. I also quite like Lelia, if that appeals!

centigrade451 · 24/03/2016 15:08

It is a predominantly Muslim/Middle Eastern name. I personally think it is very ubiquitous name in areas with higher concentration of Muslims. It depends where you live.

UterusUterusGhali · 26/03/2016 20:51

Where's the "ai" sound, ilive?

Ei. Like at the beginning of eight. Or in weight. Or do you say "weeeght"?

Tariqa · 27/03/2016 13:20

It sounds like a nickname to me

MalbecAndLindt · 28/03/2016 16:32

Love it with the spelling Leila.

shez29 · 29/03/2016 13:39

My daughter is a Layla. X
