Hi there. Twins are due reasonably soon. We both love Charles and Charlotte. Although they mean the same and are the female/male equivalent, they just seem like different names, IMO. 100% they would be Charlie and Lottie :) thank you x

It wouldn't matter if nobody ever called her anything but Lottie: Charlie and Lottie is just as bad! Like two halves of the same person!

To be fair Olber that's not any different to Martin Luther King's patents naming him after Martin Luther. Just with a musical theme rather than a Christian one. Grin

mathanxiety · 16/03/2016 21:07

OP, what you're saying really is you and DH can only think of one name.

mathanxiety · 16/03/2016 21:10

Weirdly, I know a Jacob Hamish, and also a Jacob James, in two different families. I am not the only one by a long shot who has remarked behind the parents' backs that 'they must not have known...'

Pippafisher · 18/03/2016 16:46

I think its fine! Charles is a hard ch sound and charlotte is a sh sound so they don't sound absolutely the same. Plus Charlie and Lottie are completely different! Charlotte ( Lottie) was our choice for baby girl 2 but we have baby boy two on the way instead! I have an Eleanor who has always been Ellie and friends just follow suit! If you love them, go for it, its so hard finding a name you both like! Trust me, I'm stumped on ds2!!!!

Pippafisher · 18/03/2016 16:51

By the way I know twins called Laurence and Olivia, now that is funny!

SoThatHappened · 18/03/2016 18:50

Yes of course you can.

Different sounds. Char and Shar.

They wont always be children together. When both of them are in their 20s+ and living their own lives who will care? They wont be Charles and Charlotte anymore.
They will be independant.

Narp · 19/03/2016 15:34

Call them Philip and Philippa

or Albert and Alberta

or David and Davina

or George and Georgina

or Derek and Dereka

(one of these is made up)

kelda · 19/03/2016 15:36

Lottie can also be short for Liselotte.

I really wouldn't for Charles and Charlotte.

Narp · 19/03/2016 15:38

Lottie is nice

So then I wouldn't go for a "ee" sound at the end of the boy's name or nn

Lottie and Victor/Vic

Lottie and Patrick

Lottie and James

Lottie and Alex

Narp · 19/03/2016 15:40

What about Lottie short for Violet?

WhirlwindHugs · 19/03/2016 15:50

I know sibling's with names like this! They are both known by friends as 'Charlie' which is really confusing, and tbh, most people think their parents are stupid to have done it...

So... William or Oliver both lovely names and go nicely with Charlotte.

LightTurquoise · 20/03/2016 16:05

I think it's okay, but I can see why people don't think it is... They're both lovely names - William (Billy)/Oliver (Ollie) are beautiful too... My favourite is Oliver Smile

mrsgumpy · 21/03/2016 08:00

No.

JudgeJudySheindlin · 21/03/2016 22:55

I know 3 adult Charlottes. 1 is known as Charlotte, 1 as Charlie & the other as Charley (pronounced Shar-lie). The Charlie was known as Lottie until she went to university. She's tomboy-ish in character & Lottie just was not 'her'.

I wouldn't name twins as Charles & Charlotte, for the reasons others have given. I went to school with 2 sets of twins called Jenny & Jane & Marcia & Maxine. Both hated that their names were similar & Marcia eventually changed her name to Helen. I appreciate its a challenge when you can't agree on names but you've suggested some great alternatives for Charles. My personal favourite out of your names is Oliver. You can get away with Ollie as a nn. It's a little twee with your other 2 names, but not enough to put me off.

KanyesVest · 21/03/2016 23:20

I know sisters who have an the same name in different languages. They had no idea.

Calling your twins the same name isn't a great idea.

KanyesVest · 21/03/2016 23:22

Oops, hit post too soon, I wanted to add, nick names aside, having two people with the same date of birth and near identical names will be a massive pita too. I know this having the female version of my dad's name (one letter different) and that's been confusing and annoying over the years without the additional dob complications.

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 22/03/2016 05:50

I get it to an extent - I liked the names Elsie and Beth for my DD'S but had to veto one because they both come from Elizabeth

I knew twins called Olive and Olivia and tbh I just thought it was silly not sweet

Others made an excellent point about issues with post etc. Could be other problems eg with medical records getting mixed up.

Basically dont do it..

Pipilangstrumpf · 22/03/2016 14:18

I actually thought it was a joke...! You really can't have a Charlotte and Charles as they are too similar and they may really end up as two Charlies!

AliciaMayEmory · 22/03/2016 14:20

Do it! Do it! Do it! Grin I really don't see the problem! I love both names.
