Can I have a Charles and a Charlotte?

Hi there. Twins are due reasonably soon. We both love Charles and Charlotte. Although they mean the same and are the female/male equivalent, they just seem like different names, IMO. 100% they would be Charlie and Lottie :) thank you x

No to Charles and Charlotte. Also no to Charlie and Lottie.

Agree that Charles and Charlotte are too matchy-matchy. Both lovely names though and Charles and Edward were both on our shortlist for DS.

If you like Charles and Edward would any of the other classic English king's names - George, Henry, William, James etc. - work? We also had Alexander on our list. I know they're all quite popular (as far as I remember they were higher up the name charts than Charles) but they are classics and would go well with Charlotte and Edward.

William (Billy) and Charlotte (Lottie)? I just thought Teddy, Billy and Lottie were a bit much?

How about Lieselotte?

OhShutUpThomas · 14/03/2016 21:27

What about Will and Lottie?

Shesinfashion · 14/03/2016 21:28

Please don't do it. There are loads of lovely classic names out there. Whatever nicknames you choose, you run the risk of having 2 teenage Charlie's.

Shesinfashion · 14/03/2016 21:29

My sister has a Charlotte. She is known as Charlie to her mates. She's 17 now. My sister hates it but not a lot she can do.

harasas · 14/03/2016 21:33

In the minority here but I think it's fine.

Haffdonga · 14/03/2016 21:34

Billy and Lottie are lovely. As are William and Charlotte. Smile

Haffdonga · 14/03/2016 21:37

As a parent of a dc with one of the names mentioned I can promise you have no control over the abbreviations/nicknames they are given by friends pretty much after the age of 6 or 7. By the age of 16 or 17 you're lucky if their 'known as' name bears any relation to the name you lovingly chose for them as a newborn and envisaged them growing up with.

Choughed · 14/03/2016 21:38

My parents have matching names, like Nick and Nicole.

But not for twins, I would give them contrasting names with different initials. My DD and my dog have similar sounding names and if I call one they both come running ConfusedGrin

You can't stop people shortening their names, you just can't.

KERALA1 · 14/03/2016 21:41

I knew twins nina and tina.

Shesinfashion · 14/03/2016 21:44

I know a Sharon and a Darren. They're not twins though and are in their 40's now.

sillysusan · 14/03/2016 21:48

No!

Sophronia · 14/03/2016 21:51

William and Charlotte are much better

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 14/03/2016 21:51

Rhyming names are fine. IMO.

AKissACuddleAndACheekyFinger · 14/03/2016 21:54

No you cannot.

redhat · 14/03/2016 21:55

I know a family with a charles and a charlotte but whilst they are siblings they are not twins.

WelliesTheyAreWonderful · 14/03/2016 22:01

I knew a brother and sister called Williamina and William - I just thought the parents had no imagination. This is perhaps worse though as they're twins - I'm afraid I'd think you'd done it on purpose. I do agree they would be likely to end up with the same nn - many kids reject the nn their parents give them. Call your kids what you want but there are so many other lovely names out there.

anastasiakrupnik · 14/03/2016 23:16

I think it's fine! And i think you can control nicknames if you always introduce her as that, including to nursery/grandparents etc. though you could then just name her Lottie on birth certificate. It's a lovely name.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 14/03/2016 23:24

I know a family with a Charles and Charlene...

Anyway, how about:

Charles and Meredith
Charles and Liesel
Charles and Heidi

Thomas and Charlotte
Alexander and Charlotte
Frederick and Charlotte

George and Charlotte

StarkyTheDirewolf · 14/03/2016 23:29

No.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 14/03/2016 23:29

If you really don't like Charlie for a girl then don't use Charlotte, I know a lot of Charlottes and they're all at least sometimes known as Charlie.

twinsneednames · 14/03/2016 23:33

All my life, I've never come across a Charlotte called Charlie... Plus, she's always be introduced as Lottie

Ipushedmygrannyaffabus · 14/03/2016 23:37

They could be known collectively as "charlottie"

Please don't.

William (Billy) and Charlotte are beautiful names.
