Can I have a Charles and a Charlotte?

Hi there. Twins are due reasonably soon. We both love Charles and Charlotte. Although they mean the same and are the female/male equivalent, they just seem like different names, IMO. 100% they would be Charlie and Lottie :) thank you x

No. It'll be like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters.

HeadForHeights · 14/03/2016 20:37

What about naming at least one of them the 'nickname' to cut down on the chances of people calling them Charlie & Charlie? Ie either - Charles and Lottie or Charlie and Charlotte?

twinsneednames · 14/03/2016 20:38

I like full names on BC, DS is Edward, NN Teddy...

There's literally nothing else we both agree to.

Do you have to have "matching" names?

If not, you might find ones you do agree on?

Qwebec · 14/03/2016 20:39

Talking to parents with twins I leared one thing, you need to treat the like distinct people or they will resent each other and always feel like they are competing. That means avoid always giving the same gift to both of them, and also the matching names!

CordeliaFrost · 14/03/2016 20:41

No.

I'm a twin (thankfully my ID sister and I don't have matching names, as our parents are sensible), and let me assure you, it can be difficult enough to get people to see twins as individuals (birthday cards addressed to "the Twins" is just one example), without burdening them with matching names.

When I see twins with matching names, it suggests to me, that even their own parents fail to see them as individuals.

May as well call them Twin 1 and Twin 2!

twinsneednames · 14/03/2016 20:43

I never said they need to be matching? They don't! These are the only names that were on both of our lists...

My dd who is 10, started laughing and said. "No way!".

twinsneednames · 14/03/2016 20:46

Is just Charlie and Lottie okay?

OP posts:
minipie · 14/03/2016 20:49

Yep

bossbabebot · 14/03/2016 20:49

I know two sisters called Sally and Sarah ..... Hmm

OhShutUpThomas · 14/03/2016 20:50

It really wouldn't be fair on your children to give them matching names.

Trills · 14/03/2016 20:50

Is just Charlie and Lottie okay?

No.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/03/2016 20:52

Charlie and Lottie are much better than Charles and Charlotte.

I have heard Lottie as a NN for Ottilie if that's any good?

WhereDidAllThoseYesterdaysGo · 14/03/2016 20:52

No. They will hate you for it. Rightly.

clairemum22 · 14/03/2016 20:54

No!

ScarletForYa · 14/03/2016 20:54

You can't. It's the same name.

Haffdonga · 14/03/2016 20:56

I have to agree with the noes. Really.

Your poor dts will be teased every time someone learns their names for the Rest Of Their Life and you will all look like proper charlies .

ems942 · 14/03/2016 20:57

No.

ChubbyPolecat · 14/03/2016 20:58

It's the same name you can't do that to twins

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 14/03/2016 21:01

Well. I know of a Danielle and Daniel, but personally I wouldn't. The only way you'd probably get away with with it without confusion. Is by putting Charles and Charlotte on their BC but using Lottie and Charlie as day to day names.

Micah · 14/03/2016 21:04

It seems to be a "thing" to give twins m/f versions of the same name.

I know an oliver and olivia.

I wouldn't.

BertrandRussell · 14/03/2016 21:06

How do you know she won't want to be a Charlie?

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 14/03/2016 21:13

Charlie and lottie are two names that a charlotte I know uses so I find them a bizarre combo too. I think you need to pick one and go back to the drawing board for the other one.

RVPisnomore · 14/03/2016 21:14

Don't do it. There are literally thousands and thousands of names and I can't believe that you can't find anything else at all that you can't agree on, if so, you're not looking hard enough! Not trying to be mean, but I think you will later regret those names.
