So I have finally found a name I love... But I want opinions. Some say it sounds too Eastern European, my argument is my grandfather was Czech ha.

Anyway the name...

Katya

Love it.

I know someone with that name. I did initially assume she was Polish or Eastern European because of it, but she's not.

AnnaMarlowe · 09/03/2016 21:20

Lovely.

I know one and she isn't Eastern European and carries it off beautifully.

ScarletForYa · 09/03/2016 21:20

Gorgeous!

AlisonWunderland · 09/03/2016 21:21

Nice name.

pinkcan · 09/03/2016 21:22

I like it (and I am extremely fussy with names!)

My childhood imaginary friend was called Katya, great name Grin

SaveSomeSpendSome · 09/03/2016 21:33

How is it pronounced?

Is it Kat- ya!

If so i dont really like it

OhShutUpThomas · 09/03/2016 21:34

It's pronounced Katcher.

I know someone with this name - I love it but couldn't use it because of friend.

Go for it, it's a lovely name :)

Shesinfashion · 09/03/2016 21:43

Nope. Not feeling it. Sounds awkward and made up.

AnnaMarlowe · 09/03/2016 21:49

"made up????" ShockConfused

It's a very well known and popular Russian name, usually short for Yekaterina.

In German or Scandinavia spelt Katja I think.

Not even that usual in the UK, ever hear of Katya Adler (BBC European Editor? )

AnnaMarlowe · 09/03/2016 21:50

^^!unusual in the Uk

HawkEyeTheNoo · 09/03/2016 21:51

LOVE IT!!!!

poppingcandy89 · 09/03/2016 21:52

Thank you!! I used to watch Neighbours for all my sins, and yeeears back there was a 'Katya' which is where i got it from. Daddy is Nigerian so baby will be mixed race, not that that really makes a difference but my point is she won't look 'typically' British so perhaps she'll carry it off.

My friend is katja- I like it with the j. She pronounces it more Kat/ e/ ya

poppingcandy89 · 09/03/2016 21:58

My middle name is Jana (Yana) after Czech cousin but people cannot pronounce it for love nor money, the 'J' confuses them ha so that's why I'd spell with a 'y'

JudgeJudySheindlin · 09/03/2016 22:04

Go for it! It is a beautiful name

poppingcandy89 · 09/03/2016 22:08

Fab fab, I'm pretty sure this might be 'the one!'

Never been that bothered about how popular a name is, or set on having an unusual name (son is George), as far as I'm concerned if I like a name I couldn't care less how many others share that name.

But I just love Katya :) :)
