Am I being daft in considering this for DS? It is a proper name - in the Bible and everything - and definitely a boy's name, but it's not exactly popular.

We'd pronounce it Ad-lay as in the Sufjan Stevens song, partly because it sounds nice that way and partly because it's how people will tend to pronounce it anyway. Probably teamed with a more normal middle name.

Views? Other names in running are Caleb and Ezra and no, we aren't religious.

It doesn't sound or look nice, but that's my opinion. You will get people assuming it's made up, as well.

Don't like it, sorry - it does look made up even though I know it's not. Caleb and Ezra are much nicer imo.

My association would be Adlai Stephenson. It's a whole US political dynasty and I suspect remains well known there, though probably only over-40s in UK..

My first thought on pronunciation was Ad-lie not ad-lay. Never come across it in the bible (not to say it isn't there, but not well known)

Now Aldi is a thought... And yes AuntieStella that's where we got the idea from. Adlai II pronounced it Ad-lay, but more recent ones seem to have gone for Ad-lye.

Without my glasses on I also though it said Aldi.

Looks like a half name to me, asking for a consonant at the end.

I love it. I also have the Stevenson association, and I'd pronounce Ad-lie.
