Very Scottish

I've loved Angus for a long time now but recently have seen Hamish floating around a lot and beginning to love it even more. (Middle name will be Benedict or William after our grandfathers). I was born in England but both my parents/rest of family are Scots, so there is a heritage link on my side.
Which do you prefer Angus or Hamish?

Hamish

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/03/2016 11:42

Angus

doceodocere · 04/03/2016 11:44

I like both but know an awful lot of children named Hamish, so I'll vote for Angus.

AliciaMayEmory · 04/03/2016 11:45

I love them both! (No help!)

Sophronia · 04/03/2016 11:58

Angus

PartyCityGhoul · 04/03/2016 12:06

Angus. I'm not keen on Hamish, it sounds a bit harsh to my ears. Love Angus though.

Although don't call him Angus Benedict if your surname is Cook Wink

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 04/03/2016 12:10

I love Angus. I'm not keen on Hamish sorry.

AgentCooper · 04/03/2016 12:14

Both lovely Smile but Hamish wins for me. We thought about Hugh for a prospective DS but it really doesn't work with our surname!

RortyCrankle · 04/03/2016 14:30

100% Hamish

HumbleCrumble · 04/03/2016 15:49

I like them both, Angus has the slight edge for me because I think Gus is a cute NN definitely not because it reminds me of the wee mouse in Cinderella.

magpie17 · 04/03/2016 16:06

I love both, if I have another DS his name will be Hamish. To the poster who knows 'a lot' of Hamish's, how many do you know and where do you live? I live in Glasgow and know one Hamish but am worried it's getting more popular!

BrexitentialCrisis · 04/03/2016 16:52

Love hamish and Angus but hamish's nickname could be hambo and I adore that Smile

CormoranStrike · 04/03/2016 19:47

Equally both - sorry :)

doceodocere · 04/03/2016 19:53

magpie we're in Tayside and I also know a couple of wee Hamishes in Edinburgh. It's a classic and seems to be having a moment.

OP do any other Scottish names appeal? How about; Logan, Struan, Lewis, Duncan, Douglas, Hector? I also love Alexander with Eck for a nickname.

Angus

MrsBungle · 04/03/2016 21:43

Angus. Not at all keen on hamish.

BikeRunSki · 04/03/2016 21:43

I prefer Hamish, but Angus lends itself to the nn Gus, which is fabulous.

dancemom · 04/03/2016 21:46

Seamus!

doodlejump1980 · 04/03/2016 21:49

Magnus? But out the two, I prefer Angus. Hamish is a bit twee imo

JinCa · 04/03/2016 21:54

Thanks everyone, that was no help whatsoever!GrinGrin
Doodlejump I do love Magnus but we already have a DD with a very similar sounding name.
Doceo I like a lot of those names too, bit I have brothers Duncan and Alistair and a cousin Douglas, all in their 30s, so a number of those names are already taken. I just about prefer Angus and Hamish to the remaining names.

Thinking maybe I should stick to my long-term-love Angus. Hamish might be a hormonal flash in the pan...

Hampshire DH is like James - it's a classic.
I'd be torn too. I also love Douglas too.
Then there is Fergus.
I'm not being very helpful, sorry.

candykane25 · 04/03/2016 22:00

Hamish not Hampshire. Bloody phone.
