Murray, thoughts?

After asking what people thought of Hamish the other day I'm now interested in thoughts/opinions on Murray? It's less common but a good strong Scottish name none the less....

I like Murray.

parrotonmyshoulder · 28/02/2016 20:28

It always says 'Flight of the Concords' to me, but nice enough.

Nospringflower · 28/02/2016 20:28

Love it. Wish I had picked it for my third child as its a family name but I just didn't even think about it. Know one child Murray and know of a few more (in Scotland). I prefer it to Hamish as well.

ovenchips · 28/02/2016 20:29

My first thought was Andy. Grin

llhj · 28/02/2016 20:30

I always think of mints. It's ok but prefer Hamish by a mile.

perpetuallybewildered · 28/02/2016 20:30

Can't hurry a Murray Grin

BrexitentialCrisis · 28/02/2016 20:31

I love hamish!!!!

Murray Mints

I prefer Hamish.

TheScottishPlay · 28/02/2016 20:33

I like it. I know Murrays of all ages. Suits baby, child and adult alike.

mawbroon · 28/02/2016 20:34

I slightly prefer Murray to Hamish if I'm honest. And there do seem to be loads of Hamishes around just now.

dabchick88 · 28/02/2016 20:43

Thanks for all the responses :)
I had never considered it but DH piped up with the fact he loved it today. Can tell he really wants to use it but I do still quite like Hamish...

Mints!

I'm not wild about surnames as names, but I think this one would work.

Sophronia · 28/02/2016 21:32

I like Murray and prefer it to Hamish

Mclaren37 · 28/02/2016 21:43

Murray is great. Slightly prefer Hamish but now Murray is growing on me.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 28/02/2016 22:05

Hate it I'm afraid. Very dated. Love Hamish though. Also love several other Scottish names: Innes, Gregor, Fergus, Keir.

puckingfixies · 28/02/2016 22:11

Lovely name, here it is usually the shortened form of Morgan.

mathanxiety · 28/02/2016 22:28

I like it a lot.

I like it.
Prefer it to Hamish.

squoosh · 29/02/2016 11:51

There are far nicer Scottish names than Murray.

squoosh · 29/02/2016 11:53

Plus it must be one of the Scottish surnames there is. Would be a bit like calling a child Smith.

squoosh · 29/02/2016 11:54

'one of the most common Scottish surnames'

dabchick88 · 29/02/2016 21:21

Had realised it was a surname as well but didn't realise it was that common in Scotland squoosh we aren't living there atm. It's certainly not commonly used as a first name, I think only 20 something in the whole of the UK in 2013. Hmmm keep dithering....

MackerelOfFact · 29/02/2016 21:26

If someone says Murray I just assume they're talking about Andy Murray.

My neighbour had a DS called Cameron though and it always takes me a second or two to realise she's not talking about David Cameron, so maybe ignore me. Grin

OneMagnumisneverenough · 29/02/2016 21:50

dab That would just be in E&W - there were 105 in Scotland in 2014 - ranked 69.
