Large immediate family ruling out names. Help!

Both DH and I have large immediate families, and we don't want overlap. Boys names are a pain anyway and we want something uncommon but not already in use.

I'm liking Dexter, but not sure if this is phase, and Felix, possibly Archer. Nothing seems to be jumping out. Any suggestions along these lines. Please no James, George or Harrys.

I know I'm missing the point entirely, but you have ten cats?

sugarplumfairy28 · 15/02/2016 16:27

manic DH isn't against Felix, he is very laid back about pretty much everything lol. I'm afraid the mainstream names aren't much better, We have Adam, David, Ian, John, Paul, Stephen and Timothy. Kenneth and Michael are our potential middle names.

I have mentioned River but DH isn't sure, he likes it more as a girl name, River Song (Doctor Who) instead of River Phoenix lines. He actually had a straight forward no to Rowan though.

Newbear it does seem that way doesn't it lol.

Imperial we do indeed have 10 cats, we have also have 2 dogs a bearded dragon and 2 fish tanks. I have a degree in animal management and am a bit of an animal nut.

Yes Biscuit but not sure if that's just in lieu of anything else, which I don't want it to be the case. With DS it took ages ages to come up with anything, and then it came up that FIL's middle name was Miller and I knew immediately that was it, and Francis is my Dad's first name so it worked quite naturally and DH agreed.

I'd always known that my DD would be Ottilie (for lots of sentimental family name related reasons, and the fact I love it) her middle names were a little problematic as ideally we only wanted one middle name, but as DS was named after both our fathers, both our mothers were being rather emotional about not being in there. We tried the idea of merging Ann and Vivien to Viviann or Vivien Ann but it didn't real right, so she is Debra Ann (my mums first name and MIL's middle), but her first name was easy.

For DC3 where we don't know what we're having, I'm having this meltdown about boys names. Girls, I have lots of ideas, Raine, Melody, Luna, Heidi, River, Merrit, but boys, because there are so many in the family, I wouldn't want our son to get lost in the mix of everyone else, and as you can see my family, genetically maybe, don't go in for the mainstream names.

I have mentioned Jenson to DH, we know of a couple, which is no big deal, but he is a massive F1 fan and not sure he likes the idea.

Wow Abita you had a bit of a brainstorm.

I have been wondering about Cody but not sure it rolls of the tongue easily enough with Miller and Ottilie.
We have Lee
Phillip
Wesley
Rhys
Jeremy
Dean
Marcus
Christian
Nathan.

Not too sure about the rest, Casey is a no no, and Otto or Otis would be a bit odd with Ottilie. Kade is different though!

Phillip and Wesley are my favourites of those.

sugarplumfairy28 · 16/02/2016 19:26

haha biscuit we have both of those, although DH's side this time, both rather immediate, and kinda not our thing.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! Am hoping that with some more DH will fall in love with at least one of these names!

Oh sorry, I thought you meant that was your latest shortlist! Grin

sugarplumfairy28 · 16/02/2016 21:21

Haha noooooo. I think the short list is:
Felix, Kade, Kody, Dexter and Archer.

What doesn't help is that we live in Germany albeit English in orgin, so the name not only has to met our fussiness, but also has to be a name that can be traced to English origin if it isn't already on the German 'approved' names list. Felix at least in the UK I wouldn't say in uber popular and so I'm happy with that, the benefit to it is, it is in the top 10 boys names here. Dexter I believe is problem free the others however, may cause us a bit of grief.
