Trying to find a middle name that's "proper" and appealing, to come after our slightly more quirky choice of first name. DH and I can't agree on any and baby is almost here. Thoughts on Natasha - is it nice, wearable and feminine, or a bit 80s? Can't tell any more

Sorry double post

My first thought is it's Russian, a nickname for Natalia.

It's a bit dated, but a perfectly nice name.

I think it's a lovely name, especially for a middle name if you feel it flows well with your chosen first name. Yes, it's of an era, I know lots of Natasha's in their 30s, but all that means is as with all beautiful names it will have it's due revival at some point.

Anyway, op, I'm absolutely delighted with this thread, as I had a Canadian pen pal called Natasha from age 12, through to early 20s, and this thread made me google her (very unusual surname, Eastern european dad), and I JUST FOUND HER ON FACEBOOK!!! Grin

My two friends! Tash and Tasha though, so be sure you like those variants as nicknames as she'll never be called the full version

I think dark hair and hairy!! Oh and as a pp - annoying bossy cow girl in DD class

ravenAK · 13/02/2016 19:04

Nice, clever, blonde.

I had a mate at school called Natasha who I thought was wonderful, & I've never met one I didn't like since.

Doesn't shorten brilliantly, is the only thing?

mrsschu · 14/02/2016 00:16

Reminds me of a school friend who I haven't seen in about 20 years! Because of that it sounds a little dated to me (80's?) but it's quite nice really.

Snazarooney · 14/02/2016 00:19

Natasha is pretty but nn Tash is awful!

SleepyRoo · 14/02/2016 10:51

Thanks all. I think I've gone off it. Maybe we don't need a middle name at all!

Things that would spring to mind for me....A bit 80's/90's. A little bit chavvy. Russian.

socktastic · 14/02/2016 15:45

I see a graceful Ballerina.... I don't know why!

Cerseirys · 14/02/2016 16:01

Natasha from War and Peace, though of course her name would've been Natalia/Natalya with Natasha the diminutive.

IsEatBedThyme · 14/02/2016 17:01

Girl in my year at school, 28/29 now.

WinterWinnie · 14/02/2016 19:41

Natasha is a perfectly usable name - isn't my style, but go for it

ZenNudist · 14/02/2016 19:43

It's fine as a middle name. If go for a middle name you love. It can be really popular as it's not really going to get used much.
