What do you think of Ismay Flora?

It reminds me of dismay I'm afraid, don't like it at all. Why not use Esme? Flora is lovely.

Aussiemum78 · 13/02/2016 07:27

I've never heard of ismay before, only Esme. Esme I don't mind. Ismay I'm not as keen on...pronounciation "iz may"?

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 13/02/2016 07:28

Never heard of Ismay before and really not keen. Quite like Flora.

Veterinari · 13/02/2016 08:17

Agree with pp
Esme flora

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 13/02/2016 08:18

What is Ismay?

VegasIsBest · 13/02/2016 08:26

Ismay was the surname of the builder of the Titanic. Not an auspicious start in life for your baby.

mercifulTehlu · 13/02/2016 08:27

Really like both!

pilates · 13/02/2016 08:29

Not for me.

BinaryFinary · 13/02/2016 08:29

It sounds a bit like a question

NNalreadyinuse · 13/02/2016 08:31

Ismay sounds like it was made yp by someone who didn't know how to spell Esme. Your child will spend her whole life telling people how to spell her name and getting eye rolled at the yoonique spelling.

AgentCooper · 13/02/2016 08:33

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, Vegas, Ismay was the Titanic guy!

Only1scoop · 13/02/2016 08:36

Not heard of Ismay

Like Flora though

Agree with pp sounds like question

Is May Flora?

MackerelOfFact · 13/02/2016 08:36

Ismay just looks like dismay. It makes me think of someone who really doesn't like sunflower spread. Sorry.

tilder · 13/02/2016 08:37

I love the name Flora. I didn't choose it for dd because 'spreadable flora', 'I'm interflora' etc. Sorry. Still love it, just might be tricky for a teenager.

Agree that Ismay does sound like a question.

snowgirl1 · 13/02/2016 08:38

Flora - lovely. Ismay - not keen. Esme would be fine though.

sooperdooper · 13/02/2016 08:38

Don't mind either alone but I don't think they work together very well, just doesn't particularly flow

slebmum1 · 13/02/2016 08:39

Is May Flora?

PippaHotamus · 13/02/2016 08:40

I quite like it tbh, not sure why as it's quite a strange name, but it looks nice with Flora.

I'd try saying it out loud IIWY and go from there. Sometimes the nicest names on paper are really awkward to say.

confusedandemployed · 13/02/2016 08:40

I love them both. But I knew an Ismay so I'm used to the name.

JakeyB · 13/02/2016 15:23

I like Ismay. A fine old English name and much more traditional than Esme.

I do think it's a shame that English names and pronunciations seem to be sidelined these days in favour of European pronunciations, so it's nice to see one of the old ones possibly making a comeback. Smile

IoraRua · 13/02/2016 18:21

Ismay reminds me of:
A) dismay
B) Esme
C) it's me - as in Ismay Flora looks like "it's me Flora"

Really don't like.

mrsschu · 14/02/2016 00:14

Is it a name? I've never heard of it (which doesn't mean it isn't a name of course). Honestly I would think you were trying to put a youneeq spin on Esme (which I really like btw). I don't like Flora, reminds me of the margarine I'm afraid.

SuckingEggs · 14/02/2016 00:18

Another who thinks it sounds like a question.

Flora Esme is nice.

lemonpoppyseed · 14/02/2016 00:29

I know an Ezmay, which might be a nice compromise...
