Fiona is a family name, but not too keen on it in original form. Can anyone think of Fiona derivatives?

Fionola
Fenella
Finna

Sophronia · 12/02/2016 18:10

Finella
Finola
Fifi... maybe as a nn for Felicity or Josephine?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 12/02/2016 22:40

Fiona's gorgeous very pretty and unheard of now on a little girl.
Other suggestions.
Fina
Freesia
Freeya
Freya

Ffion (Welsh) not sure if this has the same derivation as Fiona or not.

CiderwithBuda · 12/02/2016 23:11

Feena?

Although Fiona is a fab name!

babyblabber · 13/02/2016 08:33

Fina (fee-na) would be the closest and I think slightly prettier.

DontKillMyVibe · 13/02/2016 12:32

Iona? Fiona with the F basically!

shutupandshop · 13/02/2016 12:34

I like it as it is. Fi a lovely nn.

DontKillMyVibe · 13/02/2016 12:34

*without

GoldPlatedBacon · 13/02/2016 12:47

Register as Fiona but call her Fifi day to day?

Salmotrutta · 13/02/2016 13:35

DontkillMyVibe - Iona isn't Fiona without the "F".

It's pronounced Eye-ona.

I like Fiona OP - pretty and classic. Very underused nowadays!

scribblegirl · 13/02/2016 13:37

Love Fiona but DP dislikes. I knew a Fiona who went by Fay but that's maybe a bit tenuous!

Hell to the no!

Fi is fine, Fifi is poodle territory. My siblings used continue to call me this to wind me up.

OP if you don't really like the name but want to honour a family member why not just use it as a middle name and pick a first name you love?

DontKillMyVibe · 13/02/2016 18:03

I know how it's pronounced Salmo - I was talking about when it's written down.

dementedma · 13/02/2016 20:52

Fionnuala is lovely. My best friends name with a nn of Floss!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 13/02/2016 20:54

Aww, what's wrong with Fiona? It's lovely.

CityFox · 13/02/2016 21:07

How do you pronounce Fionnula?

OP posts:
dementedma · 13/02/2016 21:15

Fin oo la.

Snazarooney · 13/02/2016 21:16

Aliona?

Mag314 · 13/02/2016 21:16

Iona
Fia

I know it's a pretty name (Fiona) but it's too associated to my age group I think.
