"Muslim friendly" boy names

PippaB007 · 07/02/2016 17:59

My partner is from a Muslim background, and, for the sake of his mother, we have chosen the names of our first 2 kids to be Western, but Muslim "friendly". Our daughter is Anika (though MIL spells it Aneeqah), and our son is Benjamin (Ben), which was easy as it was FIL's name.

We are now expecting a second boy, and we're at a loss for names. Any suggestions?

Adam is the traditional suggestion. Dull but fits the brief.

Thanks! We'll look at the names. To add to the complexity, my first language is Afrikaans (we're South African, and living in SA) so it needs to be Afrikaans, English and Muslim.

Rohan ?

Adam works for pretty much everyone I think.

stitch10yearson · 07/02/2016 18:31

Rohan is very typically hindu so wont work

Most biblical names will be fine. And tbh, as long as the name has a good meaning, there is no reason why it shouldnt be acceptable.

I know someone who named their child after the only son of Muhammed, a child that died as a toddler. The mil said the name was old fashioned. :O

I taught a young muslim man recently called Yusuf. I absolutely love that name. It is really nice to say and I think it looks lovely written down too. Don't know if it works in Afrikaans and English though... (I assume it is a version of Joseph?)

stitch10yearson · 07/02/2016 18:31

Alexander in its afrikaans format?

Thanks everyone! But none of the names has hit the right spot (yet). Hmm Hmm

But it's early days. 6 more months to get that A HA! moment.

I wish it was only about what we wanted to call our kids!
