Never heard of it and looks hard to pronounce. Not sure what culture it's from?

DickDewy · 03/02/2016 19:24

Is it made up?

CocktailQueen · 03/02/2016 19:24

Sounds very like Amelia (if that's how it's pronounced ) so I think you'll have trouble with that - people will constantly be mishearing it.

Why not call her Amelia? Lovely name.

PotteringAlong · 03/02/2016 19:24

No.

Blu · 03/02/2016 19:25

How is it pronounced?

ChessieFL · 03/02/2016 19:26

How is it pronounced? I think most people will struggle to know how to pronounce or spell it tbh

Normandy144 · 03/02/2016 19:28

Assuming it's pronounced An-eh-lee-ah? I'm not keen on the spelling - looks like a made up name. What about Annelisa or Amalia?

Foxsox · 03/02/2016 19:29

No
She will spend her whole life saying it's not Amelia

Jayl111 · 03/02/2016 19:34

Yes it's pronounced an-eh-lee-ah. It's a real name girl who my mum taught was called it, that's where I hear it about 10 years ago. I work with children myself and Amelia's are everywhere so that's a no go. Just so stuck for a girl name and at the minute that is the only one I keep coming back to.

It's like Amelia gone wrong

QuietWhenReading · 03/02/2016 19:38

Well it's not that far from Anneli, which is a very pretty Finnish name.

Sophronia · 03/02/2016 21:50

How about Annelie, Annelia or Annalia instead?

PooDogMillionaire · 03/02/2016 22:04

Spelt Annelia, surely?!

TheNewStatesman · 04/02/2016 12:36

Anneliese?

WhatTheActualFugg · 04/02/2016 12:38

I'd say anything that's not obvious how to say it has be to off the list. And if you don't don't Amelia, there's no point calling your baby practically the same name but with one letter changed. not at all helpful

manicinsomniac · 04/02/2016 12:59

I know an Anna-Leah? Sounds kind of the same. Aneliya looks very strange somehow.

Other than Amelia, how about Aaliyah (or Aliya if you want it to look more English), Anika, Annalise, Anna or Leah?

IoraRua · 04/02/2016 13:01

I like it. Although if you want something to stand out from a zillion Amelias, I don't think that this is the way to go.
Bollocks to the idea that anything hard to pronounce should be off - that would rule out a lot of names from around the world. Even Amelia - I know an Am-may-lia and an Am-meel-ia.

Vixxfacee · 04/02/2016 13:02

It's terrible.

For a girl what about anaya?

NotAQueef · 04/02/2016 13:07

What about Analia (A-na-lee-ah) - used to work with someone called this. They were from Argentina. beautiful name and less confusing in terms of pronounciation than Aneliya

VoldysGoneMouldy · 04/02/2016 13:31

Sounds made up.

FairiesAreReal · 04/02/2016 13:37

Spelt Annelia, surely?!
Yes it is ok when spelt like this

(To the people saying it is made up - all names are made up!!!!)

MarieJeanne · 04/02/2016 17:57

Awful. Just because some other poor girl had this name doesn't make it a proper name imo.
