Trying to choose a girls name with restrictions!

We are desperately trying to find a girls name that we love but due to the size of our (blended) family we are struggling somewhat! We have a rather long 'short list' but nothing is really screaming at us - unlike when we chose our son's name 18 months ago (Hugo).

Names we like include Beatrice (but can't really have a B name as 2 of the children/step children start with B. We also like Hebe, Harriet and Hester but 'Hugo and H...' sounds a little naff to me! Clara is a front runner but our surname starts with a CL (bangs head on desk! ).

Other names we like are Tuppence, Persephone, Florence (might be a little popular for my liking) and Flora.

Can anyone help?!

Tuppence?!? No, surely not?!

Clara is pretty and if your surname is Clarke, for example, I think Clara Clarke is beautiful.

Tuppence Grin Grin Grin

What about Esther? Not a million miles from Hester.

Ramona, Liliana, Margot...

BettyBi0 · 26/01/2016 18:24

I don't think having lots of siblings with the same first initial is an issue unless the names were super matchy matchy. Beatrice is lovely

Showgirl109 · 26/01/2016 18:24

Clara is top of my list for a girl! Isabella is my other choice, also love love Flora. I also think Clara Clarke is a beautiful name!

meditrina · 26/01/2016 18:28

Please not Tuppence!! Clara is lovely

breezeharbour · 26/01/2016 18:39

Tuppence is a cute nickname but am I the only one who has heard it used as a nickname for vulva?

FWIW I think Hugo and Harriet sound adorable, like a pair of detectives.

BikeRunSki · 26/01/2016 18:45

Tuppence = Fanjo!

Alice
Eleanor
Isla
Iris
Connie
Robyn

babynumber3eek · 26/01/2016 18:52

Margot was also on our shortlist but Margot and Hugo sound a little matchy to my ear. Tuppence = fanjo? 😂 Oh!

GoldPlatedBacon · 26/01/2016 19:11

Tuppence isn't a name.

Felicity
Arabella
Jessica
Eleanor
Leonora

BisherBasherBosher · 26/01/2016 19:12

My mum called my vagina tuppence when I was little.

GracieGraives · 26/01/2016 19:15

Yep tuppence is a word used to describe lady bits. Don't do it to her!

cecilelliott · 26/01/2016 19:50

Lettice/Laetitia rather than Tuppence?

Love Flora, much more than Florence!

TillyTolly · 26/01/2016 19:51

I really like all of your options but agree that Florence seems to be climbing the popularity ladder a little too quickly (if that sort of thing bothers you). An alternative to Persephone could be Penelope which could give you the bonus nick name Tuppence? Penelope > Penny > Tuppence.

babynumber3eek · 26/01/2016 19:53

Lettice was on the original short list but family/friends saw it removed!

Marguerite? lots of opportunities for a pet name shortening.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/01/2016 20:00

Tuppence is the name of that lovely young actress.

Posy.

RoseDeWittBukater · 26/01/2016 20:01

Cora is beautiful and not unlike Clara.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/01/2016 20:03

Isadora - could be Izzy or Dora

Scarydinosaurs · 26/01/2016 20:05

Cora is nice!

MidnightVelvetthe4th · 26/01/2016 20:07

Esme
Genevieve

insan1tyscartching · 26/01/2016 20:10

Seraphina, Jacinta, Imogen, Eloise?

ShmooBooMoo · 26/01/2016 20:13

Thea

Cora

Cerys or Carys

Nina

Florrie (not short for Florence, though)

Edith

Penelope

It's out there but I love Eponine (could use Nina to shorten, or Eppie, the latter being the name of the little girl in Silas Marner). She is a character in Les Miserables by victor HUGO Smile

Eleanor

Sylvie

Margot

I could imagine all of the above with Hugo.

I will be honest and say I really dislike Tuppence. It's just too twee, sorry!
